i'm new to the 4th gen, but had the 2nd and 3rd gens' for a long time. i want to change my own oil and filter,,i can't seem to find a decent pic or diagram of the underside of my TA so i can see exactly where the drain plug and filter is. on my old 3rd gen, i could do the oil and filter without jacking/lifting the car at all, i could squeeze my arm/shoulder underneath just enough to get it done. does anyone know if i can i do the oil change on the LS1 w/o lifting the car? and/or can you help me with a decent pic/diagram? thx.

I dunno how big of a person you are, but I absolutely cannot do this without raising the front of the car, but I'm pretty broad in the chest (manboobs and all). No diagrams in my arsenal for you though, sorry. The filter is pretty easy to get to once the car is in the air a bit, as is the drain plug actually.

Such a bitch without ramps. Oh and when you put the plug back in use a little rvt silicone around the bolt it will keep a seal, if i dont do that it tends to leak a little and get messy

Same here. I am 5' 10" and weigh 126 pounds and have to lift the car. I usually take my time and the let oil drip out for awhile. I sometimes stay under the car looking around to look for any potential problems. Of course, I use a floor jack and two jack stands since I am paranoid.

I'm in college too, but I live off campus now. Even when I did live on campus I kept a floor jack in my room to use when I had to do oil changes ect. Makes life a lot easier
