Default Kinda stuck on what to do here guy

I have an 00 auto z28 with the gm hot cam package, headers, exhaust, lid, ported stock tb, free ram air mod, and dyno tuned. I am wanting to do something else and I know gears are a must ( going with 373 or 390 ), but I want to do something to add a little more power. i hit 372 wheel on the dyno all motor and i don't want to mess w/ spray quite yet. I was wondering if i shouldg et a more aggresive cam such as the texas giant or what I should do... thanks guys

Bigger cam will open it up alot more. I have seen plenty of 400+ numbers out of cam only cars.

Stock Torque Converter?

If so, I would get a converter and some gears. You will notice a HUGE difference.

Well somebody lied to you. It makes the car a LOT more fun to drive, especially a cammed car. (a must if you ask me)

Are you looking for bigger numbers on the dyno, or at the track?

well i want to be over 400wheel, and def lower numbers at the track lol... my 60 is killing me, i mean 2.72 and stock converter i hit a 2.2 60 with a trap of 112 .. so i know i should be mid/low 12 but i ran a 13.2 ... i heard it's really hard to drive around town .. like the car doesnt start moving till it reaches that certain RPM ... idk i've never been in a stalled car and this is my first auto car

While we are on the subject of gears and I am not trying at all to hijack this thread but I need some help!

I have a question about the effect changing gears has. I admit that I don't know a whole lot just yet on all of the inner workings that make a car put power down.

The amount of power that I feel when taking off is larger when stomping the gas from a dead stop than it is when stomping the gas rolling at say 40-50 mph. If I lay the pedal down at 45 mph or so I feel like the car is kind of sluggish gaining speed. Like it hit a lull point for a bit.

Does changing the gear ratio fix this issue, if not how can I get more power in this range? thanks in advance

I'm assuming you mean 2.73's?

Trust me, it isn't hard to drive a car with a converter in it. You will see a better 60 ft at the track, and will be a lot happier with the car.

Smile

a TC with sticky tires appears to be what you need. 3600 will be fine.

3500 is good. I wish I had gone 4000 on my orginal purchase, but that will soon be changed.

I wouldn't spend a single dollar on gears before doing a converter. The gains from gears are much less than a ~3500ish stall TC for an LS1. Even a 2.73 to 3.73 swap will likely show less than half of the ET reduction that you'd see from a 3500-4000 stall (assuming you have the proper tires for traction).

Gears are something you should only be thinking about AFTER you've done a stall, IMO.

I think people get scared by the stall numbers and think that the car will be harder to drive, but really a 3500-4000 stall is easy to get used to in these cars. And either mod (gears or stall) will cause some minor loss of MPG around town, but only the gears will cause MPG loss on the highway (cruising rpms will be the same as stock with a stall, once it locks up).

I saw a formula on another site one time to see if you need stall, gears, or more power. looked but can't find it. If anyone else from that site knows which one I'm talking about, it would prob help.

Side note, I had a lot of fun driving mine around town with a stall.

Auto= next step should be stall.

6-speed= gears next.

What are the specs on that cam? Maybe some nice heads.
