I wish I was 16 again, maybe then I would think my car is fast.

All you have to do is put big tires on the back if you think the car is too much, I have 295/35R18s on a pretty well stock car and belive me it numbs it up quite a bit as far as being *** happy. Now with the 4.10s on stock tires, I could see how a 16 yr old could end up **** up in the trees.

Thank you. I was thinking about putting ET streets on my car or Nitto 555's. Im doing ethier z06 rims or torques. Not to sure yet.

I am sure you'll be fine, I don't think there is anything wrong with learning how to properly correct slides/ loss of traction/ being sideways at speed. I am NOT suggesting that you go out and actually try maneuvers, maybe read up on stories people publish, and informational articles to give you a general idea.

I am including this video, mainly because I want you to understand that you can go sideways at anytime, with or without intending to especially in rain and snow. It CAN be controlled, It is dangerous and I understand if I get feedback about being wreckless.

About the video, ALL traction loss in the following was intentional. The car is a 2003 Mustang GT, with 315 nittos, and yes it IS slow. The owner of the car, my buddy mike, wanted to get a video of his car being sideways, so he challenged me.

Pay attention to the back of the car the whole duration of the video to see how far it steps out.

Check into what is available in your area for Solo 1 or 2 or lapping days at a road course. This is the best way to learn what your car will do at speed in a safe and controlled enviroment.

...not very far at all?

I can tell the type of kid the OP is...his car will always be super clean and never driven stupidly...which is awesome. Enjoy the car man!!!

Ok, it wasnt pointed at someones door the whole time, that car isn't that powerful...

I HONESTLY think you do not need DR's right now. The first time it rains and you go over 35 and you think you can save it like your on regular street tires you will be in for one rude awakening. Doesn't matter if you have 300rwhp or 1000rwhp DR's in rain can make for a hairy ride.

Honestly get a feel for the car, get a good set of 295's like a michelin pilot, pirelli, falken, bfg etc. and get a set of DR's for the track only.

Alrite sounds good. Some much people commented this and all this advice helps so much. Im aware of how safe i need to be with the car and i will be. Also we have no tracks here so i think. I would have to go to new jersey for english town.

Not sure where you're located, and I didn't bother reading the last 7 pages of posts, but...


buy some good tires. That'll be a good decision for performance and for safety.

as far as tracks in NJ, etown is well prepped, but don't expect to get many passes in. Try Atco & avoid Island if you want to put up a good ET (prep usually stinks)

Alrite i live in long island.. we use to have a drag strip here but damn people moving in complained of sound so they had to shut it down..

It is what it is. Get some tires, get to know the car and control it. Learning how to control it when the tires break loose will help you if **** ever hits the fan in real life. Don't be afraid to get on it, just be careful when and where you do. Easier said than done but try not to do stupid ****. You'll be fine.

Im fine with the power i just need to learn how to control it if i lose control. Like i said ive drove on my dads 700hp camaro which is a lot more powerful then my LS1 haha puts it to shame, Also dad's car is N/A. Things a beast lol a lot of fun to drive.

I bought my first camaro when i was 16 (8 months ago). Put a lot of money in it and had it totalled when i was reaerended by a jerk off. On my second one now, they are great cars for both street and track.

Just read all 7 pages. Decent Tires first mod. Brakes second. Then go find a parking lot thats empty and out of the way and see how your car handles. Slam on the brakes hard find out which way your *** is going to swing around if your going straight. Repeat while turning right and left. Upgrade pads to shorten stopping distances then repeat. The only way your going to find out how your car is going to react to something is to try it where you have all the space and room to do it safety. I'm lucky to have a drag track, auto cross track, road track and lots of empty lots close by. Lots of practice makes perfect! Just try your best to be safe no matter what! You only live once.

Just made it through all 7 pages, and I am ashamed that no one told you the first and foremost thing, WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT!!!

The first thing I would do to the car is, good brakes both pads and rotors. After that maybe some suspension parts.

Worried about how to control a ls1 at 16? I bought a high 11 second turbo buick at 15. Sold that and bought a 418 ls3 camaro. Im 17 now. Wheels up launch is in the avatar. Your dads car makes 700 na? Whats his combo? Any times? That car is probably so radical that its barely streetable. If you can drive it you ought to be fine. These cars only get scary when you push the gas pedal and get stupid. Otherwise their just transportation. My advice is dont street race. Keep it at the track. At 15 i was at the track every week and got my passes out there. Never had a wreck which is a testament to my father letting me go their all i wanted but no street racing. In my experience turbo cars are the scary ones. If i was merging or leaving a light hard and that boost comes in full psi thats when everything gets real. It hits and hits real hard. Thats when youre driving on ice. na cars are linear. my 418 is bucking hard through the whole pass so theres no jolt or shock. regardless, good luck. I remember my first pass and you get hooked. dont get too comfortable. Ive got about 600 right now and i want more. when i get 700 ill want more too. thats whats truly scary.
