Default idler pulley

im replacing the bigger idler pulley.
the ep024
when i put the new pulley on with the old hardware it was to tight and didn't want to spin. i tried to loosed the bolt and it felt to loose so i took off the front and back hardware and it felt like it was fine is this OK to do? i feel like it might still have a little squeak with out it. anyone know if i have to use the spacers?

there was a change in 2000 on pulleys......there is a TSB on it........they changed the pulley and the bracket.........the old pulley will not fit on the new bracket.......so if you have a 2000 and up see what parts you have.........or maybe someone change it out

Correct.

Looks like the OP has a '98, but someone may have changed the bracket on his car previously, meaning that it would need the newer pulley. Or he may have just gotten the newer pulley but still has the old bracket, and thus needs the older style pulley.

If you have the new bracket, the pulley you need is GM #12563326. If you have the old bracket still, then this pulley would not be correct. I don't have the part number for the old pulley though.

Yeah, like stated above, the TSB for this covers '98 thru mid '00 production. I believe the part number for the new alternator bracket is 12563327, it moves the idler pulley by something like 3mm I think, and requires a revised pulley (#12563326).

Does anyone have a picture of the parts to an idler on an 02 WS6 type Trans Am? I did a water pump change for a friend and found a part on the ground after finishing, and have a sneaky suspicion that it goes on there somewhere. I know there is a bolt and a concave type washer and the pulley with the bearing on the inside. Is there supposed to be a fourth part aside from the bracket?

OK< I just went to one of your A/C pulley videos and it shows that there are two washer types...one on the front and one on the back...so will go take it apart and put it on. Thank you for any and all help.

I chased a squeak under the hood for over a month on my 99. This must be why. I could apply a bit of pressure to the pulley while running and the noise would immediately stop. Changed out the pulley and it stopped it for the most part, but I remember having to leave off the dust covers. Still have to carry baby powder to silence the noise from time to time. First thread I've seen that actually nailed down my problem. Thanks for the info.

That is the tensioner pulley, but I don't think you can get the pulley by itself from GM, or at least I don't know of an individual part number for it - I'm pretty sure You have to buy the whole tensioner if you want OEM. GM part number for main belt tensioner (with pulley) is #12560344.

On the other hand, I believe you can get an aftermarket version of this individual pulley without the tensioner, but I don't have that part number.

You can replace the tensioner pulley by itself. I did last year because mine took a crap. Got it from autozone, but I forget the part number
