Default Shifter Question

I was wondering about how long it would take to install a pro 5.0 and how hard it was. Ive hear it was really easy and was planning on buying one soon cause the stock shifter is ****.
Thanks for the help.

Its a little harder than the B&M Ripper. On the Pro 5.0 they want you to cut the shifter boot, so that'll only take a few more minutes.

I'd say about a half hour, or around there. Depends on how fast you work. Its really easy.

Peace,
Craig.

i did mine about 3 weeks ago. check out www.ls1howto.com there are step by step inst. there. it was super easy. just take your time. i didnt have to cut anything. i just used a bunch of screwdrivers to get the boot off of the stock hurst shifter. took about 10 min, but i got it off. all in all, id say a good hour and a half for me. it made a world of difference. if you want a real low profile shifter, get the lou's short stick and slap it on the pro 5.0.

The stock hurst shifter is actually quite nice once you get rid of the crappy stick. Try a Lou's or Jarrod's short stick first for like $25 or so and see if you like that before dropping $$$ on a shifter. Just my .02

If this is something really new to you, give yourself a couple hours start to finish. That gives you time to reference the instructions, grab the tools, and prevent breaking, scratching or cracking anything, etc.

If this was something you'd done before, 30-45 minutes is not out of the realm of possibility. Go for it though, it's something anyone that can use a socket wrench, screwdriver, and scissors can do.

I agree. I have the factory Hurst and a Lou's Short Stick, and it made a HUGE difference. Shifts are much more secure and they notch into place easier.

I'm somewhat like SteelSnow.....something always goes wrong, you can call me an average backyard mechanic, when i did my pro 5.0 last year, took me about an hour max that was just b/c i took my time and didnt wanna mess anything up. After i was done i thought the job was cake and nothing can really go wrong. Hardest part was taking the time after it was installed to adjust the stop screws. Good luck.

That hurst/stock shifter does'nt have stops....The pro 5.0 and I think the ripper doe's....These stops......stop you from beating you trans. up. Our trans have aluminum shift forks and you don't want to beat on them.

so the pro 5.0 is more safe for the trans than the stock one is? that sounds weird usually the aftermarket stuff is worse for the car.

I swapped out my stock shifter with a B&M ripper. The time was about one hour, but I took the panels that were removed and washed them before reinstalling them. I have a Corvette, but the Fbodies should not be any more difficult. Great mod .
