Default Sponsors! Want to Help me Plan my Engine Build?

Im building my LS1 in my 1998 Z28 Camaro M6. I want to go with a 383 rotating assembly with Patriot heads and the right cam. I want it capable of at least 500rwhp N/A all said and done. I also want the motor to be extremely reliable for road racing purposes, but capable of 10sec 1/4 miles if i take it to the track. Already have a built t56 and a fab 9 being built now.

I'm looking to spend 6-7k on parts for the motor. What brand rotating assembly is best? I was looking at Callies. Also which Patriot Heads and Cam would be best for my build that can make 500rwhp N/A and be good for road racing?

Thanks!

I would call a few, let them know your serious and have cash in hand. They will be more willing to talk to you for a little big and you can get an idea of what it will take.

I don't have cash in hand, thats why I'm on here haha. If anyone has some spare time to check out the build sheet I just wrote up, and give me a few pointers to fine tune my idea, thats what I'm looking for

goto the dyno section and check out that out. Keep in mind I was almost about to pull the trigger on a 383 job and I found that you can almost just spring for a 402 shortblock (or 383) if your paying for the machine work and the assembly. You have to pay for the conversion kit extra but that's about it. I however, was going to be piecing my kit together as I went so it didn't matter to me.

I would leave it stock displacement and sink the money into better heads if it was me.

That is a very good point. I can almost get a built 402 longblock for the same price as the parts and labor for building the motor I have now...my only problem would be I don't want to have to buy a new intake manifold, headers, accessories, etc to fit a whole new block...

Pretty sure all your stuff will work, but I don't want to tell you the wrong thing. Might want want to ditch that Ls6 intake if your going h/c and look into 1-7/8 headers.

Everything that is going to choke HP on a 383 will be doing the same to a 402. Intake and headers are the big dollar items. The ls6 intake is marginal for heads and cam. If you want 500 rwhp it is not going to be easy with that intake. My 90/90 and 85mm maf created a bottleneck at 6200 rpm when the motor started to pull vacum.

Thanks Orange Juice and My6SpeedZ. I figured as much with the LS6 and current headers, and I will eventually be getting a fast 102/102 setup with TSP 1 7/8 headers. I figured out my motor plan, which is a TSP LQ9 408ci. I made a new thread over in Gen 3 Internal Engines looking for some pointers if you want to check it out.
