What all GM cars have a LS1?
If I am looking for a replacement motor, which Gm vehicles can I look for, I found a 2002 Tahoe, is that the same motor? I am told all I have to change is the pick up tube and oil pan, Is this correct? what other models have the same LS1 motor.

Yes trucks have LS based engines... But they are NOT LS1/LS6 engines like what you are looking for... Although the LQ9 engines built can out perform LS1 engines they are not the same as LS1/6. These motors are aluminum. Truck motors are iron.

Junkyards can hook you up with a 6.0 liter truck block for a good price. Or Scoggey Dickenss has a nice budget built ls1 short block wqith forged internals.
If you ever plan on doing turbo look into a 5.3 truck block. People practically give those away.
Or, if youre wanting to ever build a big cube motor do it now. There is generally a 2-300 dollar difference between price for shortblocks.
But if Your just wanting a decent build. a 6.0 truck block with heads and cam will do you well. However, a truck block is going to weight about 70 pounds more.
There are tons of options for you, just decide on your price point and go from there. If you want just a stock replacement, look into a Thompson Motorsport block they do alot of budget friendly combos that I'm sure would be in the price range you need.

looking to upgrade...
Looking to upgrade to an Ls1... I have an '03 Monte Carlo... what vehicals can i purchase to swap out the engine and tranny. Was thinking about a grand prix gxp or gtp. If I can find reasonably priced salvage G8 would that work. With that said what else would I have to do to the vehicle to make this work and what engine and tranny mods could I do to get more power.

A Monte Carlo or GTP will be a ton of work to fit an LS engine into. Those L67 engines are so potent with a turbo you can make TONS of power. It wouldn't be worth the money to swap in an LS1. You would be better to spend the money going RWD with a 6 speed and making 300-600 WHP with a turbo.

We can get you a short block with king bearings new pistons, balanced and blueprinted 5.7 for $1619. Its not much more than a junkyard block and you get something you will not have to worry about. The cost of an install can add up when you have to go through 3 junkyard blocks to find one good one. Give us a call and we can find something that will fit your budget.
