First ls1 car, whoop
Long time no see for this site for me, lol.
I finally got my paws on an ls1 car, a 98 z28 a4 with 175k on the clock.
I've only got $550 in it, lol
It runs pretty well, but has a few querks...
\Problem number 1: The check valve is in the fuel pump is supposedly bad, which causes the line to lose pressure when the car sits. you've got to cycle the key twice to get it to start. Is this a common problem? And i'm assuming the only way to fix it is to replace the fuel pump.
Problem number two: The oil pressure guage bounces around quite abit at cruising rpm. At Idle it holds pretty steady around 30-40 psi, and under full throttle it holds constant at a little above 40. I'd say it probly fluctuates 2-5 psi, pretty rapidly back and forth. I almost think it's a the guage, but figured I'd ask if this also is a quick fix, or a hint of something more serious.

First of all, how is the body? Hell of a deal you got there regardless!
Yes, sounds like the check valve is bad on your fuel pump. I wouldn't worry about it and just run it like that until the pump goes (annoying as it may be).
Second, yes the oil pressure sensor is behind the intake and commonly goes bad and will make your gauge fluctuate as you described.

Am I the only person on this forum that has replace the OPSU without taking the intake manifold off? All you gotta do is get a thin walled sensor socket from NAPA and about 15 minutes of your time. Lay you a packing quilt across the LS1 and proceed.

Lol That's a relief about the opsu. I was hoping it was something simple. And I probably will run the fuel pump until it breaks for good, I was just curious if That's what it actually was.
I'd like to get me an ls6 intake and a cam for it asap.
What would y'all recomend for a good cam for an auto car with a nasty lope?
LT1PWR1: The body is pretty straight, It's got a little bondo in the passenger quarter panel, and the clear is peeling in a few spots. pretty straight though. I've been trading up with guns and cars and this is the latest development lol. I may hang on to this one for a while

Well I took it Middle tn dragway tonight, and it ran a best of 9.74 at 74 with a 2.33 60' time. That is absolutely miserable, lol. But that track runs uphill pretty steep, and everyone was running about a second off of what they usually run due to the humidity and temp. So I'm hoping for a 8.90 9.0 ish pass at a flat track when it cools off. Still had a blast and had the fastest car on street tires(sadly lol).

get some stickier wheels and suspension mods to drop those 60 times. Congrats on the ls1 btw. You might want to get a second opinion on the oil pressure. I know the gas gauge usually reads bad, but ive never heard of oil pressure guages not reading properly on ls1 cars. I could be wronf though.
