Default Removing the engine

Dropping my engine in the next few days.. Got any tips or any tricks or fair warnings for me?

We will be dropping the k member (and ill probably swap for a lighter weight k member)

Me and two shop buddies feel like we can remove the engine.

A friend suggested this book

It's pretty straight forward. Took 4 hours... Included drinking, and a hour lunch break.

They make it look so easy...
But it does look pretty simple. I feel like its harder to put one in than to take one out.

While the engine bay is empty im gonna do some major bondo work and see if i can get it clean and send it to the paint shop to get some touch ups..

Its not that bad, took me about 2 1/2 hours to get it out. Just make sure you have everything disconnected before trying to drop down the k member.

i did it by pretty much myself in roughly a day without a lift, and that was my first time doing it. take your time and make sure that nothing get snagged up when your lifting the body/ lowering k member. I broke and bent a couple brake lines cuz i rushed to get it out. I had the ls1/6 book that tells how to do it step by step as well as looked at this guide:

i have done this a couple of times in the past 6 months. i have no lift and work was done in my 2 car garage. i bought 2 dollies from harbor freight and put under the engine and trans. i lowered the car down onto the dollies, then removed the 6 k-member bolts. then engine and trans was then left sitting on the 2 dollies. i used a cherry picker to lift the front of the car and then just proceeded to wheel out the engine and trans.

How did you use the cherry picker to lift the car?

What "dis06" said. I'd look into getting some height in the rear if you can. I used a couple ramps on a SECURED stack of 2x12s, wrapped a HD tow strap around the front end and lift.

it will def. help if you can get the rear up a little like posted above. my garage floor wasn't tall enough, also using a tow strap like that is a lot better also, or at least take off the front end. when i lifted mine i dented in the front end since i used the cherry picker with bumper still on.

I also did the cherry picker method on one I parted out recently , the idea to get the rear wheels up is a good one , I was on the rear bumper/exhaust next time I would elevate the rear befire lifting.

I also left wheels & tires right on and just rolled the engine/trans/suspension out from under the car on its own wheels , pulled the engine and trans off the cradle and rolled the cradle back under , bolted it back in and made the car a roller since I was not putting an engine back in it...
