Both are good blocks. What are your goals? I have a 5.3 Silverado with a 76mm turbo, runs real good. 550+RWHP

If you're building the motor, 5.7...if you're not, 5.3. You can throw power at both, but the 5.3 will take stupid power (depending on how reliable you want it to be). A super simple search will show you what either block is capable of...

Depends on your goals. A stock LS1 with 8-12 lbs should last a while while making 450-500 to the wheels. That's my plan so far and run it till it blows

If your going to go boost either way save some cash on the LS1 and buy the 5.3. Put a decent turbo behind it and you'll have an amazing engine. These motors never stop amazing me with what they can put up with.

The aluminum 5.7 will handle lower boost than a iron 5.3. 5.3's or more readily available in most local junk/salvage yards for if you ever tear up the block.Buying another 5.3 from a yard is most likely going to be cheaper then re-sleeving an aluminum 5.7. I personally would go with the 5.3 only because once you add boost your going to want more.
