Default What's Normal??

Just curious to know what you guys think is a good idle speed for an M6. mine idles at 1000RPM. That seems a little high to me?? Is it possible to slow it down at all with the stop screw on the throttle body? What does your car Idle at?? Thanks!!

1K is high look for a vacuum leak, or a stuck IAC.
Usually about 700-800 is the norm.
Have any way to scan PCM & check data stream?

No, I have no diagnostic software. I cant hear a vacuum leak, although it would probably be hard to hear (My car is quite loud). How do I check for a stuck IAC???

just a thought but if you're going by your factory tach, you might want to check your idle for real with an autotap or something if you can get your hands on one.

i know my idle reads 850 on my stock tach and is really only about 640. the factory tachs tend to be off a few hundred rpm...ive seen em too slow and too fast.

Yeah, I questioned the accuracy of the stick tach. My car doesn't sound like its idling TOO high, maybe just 1-200 RPM. I guess its time to order up some software, I need it for other things anyway..

Mine idles at 750 rpm and I have an M6. I'm real sure that the tach is accurate, Id be surprised if it wasn't.

i have a m6, my tach says it idles at 1000, however i have a raptor shift light (those are on the MONEY!), set it on a grand, tached it up just a tad, and it came on. all that said my idle is around 750rpm, even though the tach says 1000. i wouldn't be suprised at all if yours was the same case. you could kill two birds with one stone and buy a shift light, and see if your idle is indeed off, and then have a new shift light hope that helps-Jim

they are almost never accurate....mine is around 200 rpm high at idle and drops to 200 rpm low under heavy acceleration (can't keep up with the motor i mean.)

My car, has always idled at 1000 rpm's on the tach.

Tech II, Autotap, Predator, all show it to stay right around 800

... stock tach != accurate

I agree with joker, my idle is 800 rpm on the tach and 800 +/- 20 rpm on the Predator data monitoring. I would bet the higher the rpm, the more the dash tach is off.
