There is no best cam , the best cam for you is the cam that fits what you want to do , are you going to the dragstip or autocross or just a fast street car

Pretty much what he said. A cam is a cam if you talkin about who makes it. Important part is what the cam specs are. If you got a basically stock ls1 with the normal catback, lid, maybe long tube headers, a cam might not even be worth doing YET. Power is nothing without the suspension and drivetrain to put that power to the ground. If you ARE gonna do a cam anyway..the milder the better because no doubt the trouble a cam will cause you without a tune, suspension, valvesprings, rocker arm upgrades, etc is gonna drive you nuts. once you got the chassis and most important the tune ready do a cam well..a good steetable spec camshaft will look something like 220 to 224 duration (@.050), 550" to 585" of valve lift and a lobe seperation (lsa) of no less than 113. Even these numbers may be to much for some cars. A cam like a 220/224 555",565" with 113 lsa will lope pretty hard. Of.course your heads and valve train upgrades will determine how radical a cam u can use, actually I should say how well you have the ability to have the car tuned for the camshaft. If your gonna do a cam, go as big as you can because it sucks to put in a cam only later realize its not."mature" enough and have to do another bigger cam...but this is.rare

By the way....the specs on that cam are massive. 250 ish duration with a 112 lsa...can you say lope? I'd say go for just to see what happens.

That might be the advertised duration but it's .050* numbers are 236* .590"/236* .590" 112*. http://marylandspeed.com/slp-ls1-hyd...acturers_id=15
That's a big cam for a street driven LS1. Is your car a M6 or A4 and what other mods do you have?

Depends what you want to do with the car, but I'm going out on a whim and saying that cam is way to big for anything you'd want to do. 95% of cars are just street cars with maybe some track time occasionally. That cam is quite large for the street. the 224r from tsp is a good street cam and makes good power

I'd definitely recommend some 4.11 rear gears and get a adjustable timing chain/gear set to advance that cam about +3*(109 ICL). That will bump the DCR up and move the powerband down a little bit. IMO, with a good tune and my above recommendations it should make good power and have fairly good driveability on the street.

that cam mite be too big if you don't have the right gears and stall converter .consider a Texas Speed 224 or 228 cam.get the cam pkg .ask alot more questions before you buy any thing.

They sure do not tell you where the power band is that would be enough for me to nix it.

With a IVC of 50 it'll definitely make plenty of power above 6k, I'd go ahead and have heads ported and milled while there off to fly-cut the pistons. Id also still advance the cam 3-4* to move the power-band down and increase DCR. IMO, if you don't plan on spinning it above 5500rpm very often then go with a smaller cam.
