9 sec daily driver?
My friend works at Checker, and this guy came in, wanting a starter/alternator check. My friend asked, "What kind of car do you have?" The guy replied "98' Firehawk". My friend was like "Cool, that's rare, lets check it out." Upon walking up to the car he noticed some a-pillar gauges. When the guy popped the hood, my friend noticed the nitrous solenoids and the intake going down to a Powerdyne SC. The guy then proceeded to tell my friend that he was running 13psi, no intercooler/alky/water, and just 100octane. He also said it was his daily driver and that it had a stock shortblock and cam! He said he's hit it with a 250shot+10psi and run a best of 9.5! WTF?!? My friend kind of waved the bullshit flag, and then the guy pulled out a 9sec. timeslip. I was like ya, I have bunch of 11sec timeslips, because that's what the car next me ran! So what!
Anyway, is this possible on a stock short block/cam, the guy didn't even have a 'cage? What is the fastest LS1 with stock cam and shortblock? Is this guy full of crap or what?

Depending on the dragstrip, he probably wouldn't have been handed his timeslip if he'd made a nine second run without even a rollbar.
The boost alone is living dangerously...adding any nitrous, let alone a 250 shot is way, way too much for a stock LS1 shortblock.

Considering 93 is like $2.30+ right now, I would say 100 is like $6.00 or something. In a daily driver? Blah, I doubt you just pull up into Shell and put the nozzle in the tank for 100 octane..........

You can find 104, 110, and 116 at the pump, too...but you've gotta look a little harder for those.
By the way, there were no '98 Firehawks.
"SLP Engineering, Inc. did not produce 1998 model year Firehawks...SLP did however add Firehawk content to 6 1998 model Trans Ams and Formulas... it should be noted these vehicles do NOT contain the GM RPO WU6 option code. While these vehicles do contain Firehawk content, they are NOT considered production Firehawks."

so the 98 "firehawk" said firehawk...but jsut didnt have the options...or the raptor hood?...or something cuz if so then a guy out here must have one...looks like a 98-02 SOM Trans Am....all features...but says firehawk on the side and back...doesnt have the hood tho
and no intercooler sounds crazy....thne again...doesnt nitrous cool the engine down so mayb that saves his crazy ***....
all in all that sounds like a strong *** running car either way...deadly at that...mayb he does run 9's but if so...damn thats a FREAK! on the stock block....with just a cam...hes gotta be at like what 1000 hp or something lol

From how I'm reading that, it means that SLP built six cars that looked, smelled, and tasted just like Firehawks...but the WU6 code wasn't present, making them just odd Formulas and Trans-Ams. I certainly don't know the story, though, so that's just one man's guess.
Speaking personally, I'd never, ever design a supercharger system without an intercooler.
As far as where I live: the metro Detroit area.

As long as you aren't at an NHRA track you can get away with a lot.
My local track is pretty easy on the street cars.
And the stock shortblock record is like 9.5.
Its possible.
Not likely, but possible.
Its not as expensive as you think.
Its almost cheap enough to use in a daily driver (like $3.00 a gallon in some places!).

there are a couple places that sell 100 around here its like $5 a gallon near me. It is unlikely but possible he could pluck off a 9...but unless that was a geardriven powerdyne I doubt it especially w/o an intercooler...my old belt driven powerdyne put out like 5-6psi of boost and changing pullies was easily an early death of at least the internal belt...at 6psi i was getting iat temps over over 180 fwiw. Id assume well over 200 w/ gear driven & no intercooler. say 300hp stock + 15hp per lb of boost + 250 shot hed have 750 to the wheels in a perfect world but alot of broken parts at about 1/4 track lol i remember bad is the day when vortech had come out with their aftercooled kit & adding a 30 shot would call for an early head gasket death so id fly the flag on this story.

Thanks guys I needed some re-assurance on this subject. The track he ran at was Firebird (in Phoenix), 1/4mi track, and they're really strict on saftey. Whatever, word gets out SO fast in this town when someone runs a badass time. There's a guy here with an 8 sec Fox body "street car", and word got out on him before he could finish the run! Hehehe. I can't wait to see him at the track.....

its very possible. but if its true I think we would all know who he is. High 9's are fairly easy with one power adder. 2 power adders would be great but I dont think stock shortblock would last long.
