Default Results from first time racing - Milan

Myself, BackInBlack, and FBodMan went to Milan saturday morning. I was the only car that ran though, and it was my first time. While I was very disappointed with the results, I definately had fun and can't wait to make some changes and capture some improvements. Before you laugh at my times, remember, I have stock gears/clutch/heads/cam and all stock suspension (so I have lots of excuses), as well as my first time out. :rollin

The tires kicked @ss I thought, but I just couldn't nail a launch...the darn thing would bog down so bad , I think the fact that I never got a Dyno Tune after my LT's went on really hurt, I need more low end torque, or learn to launch at higher rpms's, however, here you go...2 best runs...

.697 Reaction, 2.092 60ft, 13.466 1/4 @104.82
.672 Reaction, 2.048 60ft, 13.451 1/4 @102.93

Not the best, but I did beat most of the cars that I should, including that Cobra 3 times in a row!

For your first time at the track thats not too bad, better 60ft and you'll be in the 12's with some practice

you think so? awesome! I'm very eager to figure out this low end torque stuff though, and see if I can get a launch that doesn't bog down so bad...

I don't think a twelve is possible with the MPH you have,I have the same mods with the no LS6 intake but 4.10 gears and just tickle 109 MPH on the 2 runs I had. With lid and catback I ran 2.15/13.4x@105-106.Maybe your car is more on the edge of the programing and needs tuned.I wouldn't wail on it untill you make sure the fuel/spark is where it should be.Something is holding back your MPH.

I think you could get darn close to 12`s if not in them. I ran my 01` Z28 with air lid & exhaust when i first got it and was running 13.4`s and 13.6`s all day on street tires. When i recently got my SS has airlid and exhaust alsoi was running 13.4`s consistent but once the only time my street tires really caught good i ran a 13.2. I think if i hooked everytime i would run 13.2`s every time so i think that with a few mods you can hit 12`s and seeing that you got them i think you should be there but yes i would do the tune

Take into account this is his first time at the track, who knows how the shifting was and if he went all out. FYI i ran a 12.96@108 with just a cutout bone stock 98 M6, so with the mods u got and some practice u should be in the 12's

Yeah,I know I'll get 12's with more driving.Bad shifting should still get better MPH. Bone stock with a cutout 12.96@108 on a A4 98? Could be,but I would have to see it.

I said SEE the run not SEE a slip, whats that prove as far as mods? You had more then a cutout and the 1.92 60' and 5.49 330' indicate tires.Just because your wrong on 1badmofo improving his 60's and getting twelves you don't have to argue with me about what your stock 98 w/cutout ran cause your wasting your time because you think a slight improvement in the 60' will get you 5 TENTHS.

Those times and mph look exactly like my stock a-4 #'s and usually an m-6 should trap like 2to3 mph more. Your 60' times are not too bad espically for a 1st timer, and it sounds like you need to find a better rpm to launch at since you said it was "bogging down" If you can get that 60' time down in the 1.8xx range and hit your shifts you can see 12's....Good luck!!

I see several valid points. First, your 60 fts are not bad at all for a M6 on stock tires with a stock clutch, especially considering it was your first time out. Honestly bogging a little most likely kept you from smoking the tires or clutch. You will have to pick the mph up to get in the 12's. It almost looks like you are either lifting too soon, or having trouble with your shifts (given the quicker 60 ft, and et on the second pass but almost 2 less mph). You need to learn to power shift or whatever you want to call it where you clutch and shift with out lifting on the throttle AT ALL. This will most likely get you more MPH and get you into the 12's. For ex, I have a 00 T/A and ran 13.12 at 109 mph with almost a 2.2 60 ft. Anytime I tried to leave above about 2500 the clutch would not hold and the pass would have to be aborted. So I would basically leave about like I would on the street and then stab it. With a good clutch, I have no doubt I would have run in the 12's, but I was also running 5-7 mph faster than you were at the end.

Mind you - I've never ran at a strip - but I've seen this discussed elsewhere. The speed markers are before and after the finish line. Did you lift right at the line possibly and that lowered your speed?
One of these days I'm gonna have to try to hit Milan just for S&G's and see what the goat will do stock before I start modding over the winter. Given my complete lack of experience on the track - I'm sure I'll be lucky to get into low 14's even though my car is capable of mid to low 13's.

I agree, I don't see 12's in my future without major changes, and one of the first changes is going to have to be a tune. I have always thought my car ran great, but then again, until 2 days ago, I had never launched from a stop, never once! I've raced quite a few times, but always from a roll.

shifting was ok except that I probably shifted too early often, because out of 17 runs I only hit my rev limiter once...

Tune, and practice are the keys for me...for launching on street tires, I kept reading how everyone would dump the clutch at about 2, and then punch it, I think I was too slow with this, and should have worked more towards doing them at the same time....I was more dump...then punch

Oh well, was a fun day!

I was a fun day at Milan. They have actually been doing a decent job with track prep in 2004. I hope they keep up the good work.

I never did get my launch down. I was bogging at first, then I tried a couple more aggressive launches and it was ugly. Still, I managed a few 1.9 60' times. I managed a 12.8 a couple 12.9s and a couple low 13s when I blew the launch.

I need some more practice on the starting line and I think mid/low 12's would be pretty attainable.

Get a shift light, hitting the limiter kills ET and MPH.I had better luck on street tires "slipping" the clutch out of the hole and then nailing it,dumping it will get a bog or spin.To get a 2.0X you most likely didn't bog it,try to do what you did these 2 runs.I think a good set of DRs,practice, and a tune that increases MPH to maybe 106-108 would get you a high 12.

I was also at milan saturday. I think you could run a 12, I did with similar mods. I was very impressed that the track was hooking, much better than last year. My best run was a 12.94 @ 110.08mph.
