Default Which motor to star with for 240 swap?

Hello all, I have been doing research for my swap.

i pan on taking a 2500 Lb nissan s14 and swapping a small block chevy into it.

If you were to spend 2000$ would you get a ls1, or a 5.3 or 4.8 with heads cam intake?

planned to be a sunday driver/autocross car.

5.3 with heads and cam... LS1 pullout will cost you 2k alone... And is that 2k total for swap? Bc its going to cost more than that...

No I plan on spending 2k for a motor only. I expected to pay 2k for an ls1, planed on re gasketing the heads and whatnot anyways. Think your right ill snag a 5.3 for 500 bucks and then have 1500 dollars to play with maybe ill get 243 heads and a 228 cam . i could probably have that for under 1300$ and then have plenty of money for a decent clutch. You got to figure a Swap will cost about ten thousand. i want to run a nls6 oil pump and ls2 timing chain. would it be worth the money to grab a set of arp head studs?

why would it cost around 10k? are you planning on taking it to a shop or do the work yourself?

I plan to do all the work by myself.

4000 for motor
2000 for t56 swap
1600 for sikky kit
200 for radiator
1200 for exhaust
50 for nuts and bolts
i have a full aeromotive setup and wideband from previous build
1000 for plug and play harness
plus 150 dollars for all fittings -an fittings ill need
4000$ clean shell

equals 14,050... I built a full standalone ms3 setup for my starion but 'm trying to say f*** doing that again. is there anything you guys would recommend I do, i've read multiple build threads and built turbo cars before and im dealship tech whos pretty talented.

if thats how your going to budget it then your going to be way over that.

whats your power goal? are you interested in turbo set up or n/a only?
budget build or not?

btw are you able to weld? that has been the biggest saving in my previous swap.

ls1 harness are practically a standalone. just take a bit to modify and its an easy swap without the hefty price. $$$ saving

shell cost shouldnt be factored in there as its not part of the "swap" cost.

isnt starion covered with ecmlink? 4g? if it is why didnt you go that route. i use to mess with dsm before and its basically a stand alone. 530awhp with a very simply setup.

Starions have G54b's its a two injector wet manifold setup. your thinking of the 4g63 found n evos lancers and dsm's. my power goal is 400 Whp out of a 5.3 truck motor. think i can get there for ten thousand. I dont see why I couldnt. I can mig weld but i have no acess to a tig welder. im just nervous about wiring a car together again, id rather spend the money and get a harness. Why would be over budget for 10 grand. I think i have a pretty solid plan. Do you have a link to a build of yours i could check out.?

i could have sworn ive seen starions with dsmlink over the dsm forums a few times. i could have been mistaken.

anyways yea for 4k on an engine you better. im not saying you cant im saying thats way to much and there are other ways thats more budget friendly for your hpgoal. and for 4k i would go with a difference engine. but i build differently just as you have your preference.

then theres the are you sure youll be satisfied with the 400? or will you want more. better to set it up now.

but what i said was if thats your planning then you will be over 10k once you add things that you didnt account for. I can be pretty detailed for funding a project but even then i seem to miss things that add up quickly.
i mean just looking at that list. your missing a tune/hptuner, rad hose, electric fans, clutch/flywheel. clutch line/conversion-t56 are internal slave. then getting guages/wideband and getting speedo and tach to work?

thats assuming your buying accesory under engine budget.

and no build thread if you have an instagram i recently started one for my current turbo ws6.

anyways all in all if you have the fund and dont have a problem spending it go for it. im just the type of person that would plan to save on things and put it towards more mods
