Default 410 gears or headers ?

Gentlemen,

Due to the abundance of information indicating 410s/ 411s in an m6 10 bolt have a high probability of breaking, would keeping the 342s and instead focus on intake, headers and exhaust be worthwhile instead ?

The car is an 02 M6 LS1 TA, only mod is a flow master muffler. If it matters, came with 16x8 245/50/16, now has on all 4, 17x9 275/40/17.

Its not really the 4.10s or 4.11s thats gona hurt its once you start making more power and have a sticky tire and hook is when it seems to break

I run 4.10's with drag radials and about 600 rwhp and all is well for now. A lot of it has to do with how you drive it

And how the rear is set up, and what gear you're using. And luck it seems.

If it were one or the other I'd probably go gears. Thousands of people have taken the chance and been OK. Sometimes they do break, and they are weak in general. Gears will make the car more fun to drive. And since you're not running drag radials you should be OK.

Could go with a 3.90 gear? I've heard they're not as prone to breaking like 4.10s...? The performance difference between 4.10 vs 3.90 would be very minimal.

keep your original gears. you won't see much difference in 3.42 and 3.90 gears. put the money in a good exhaust, cam or heads. And then when your 10 bolt blows up buy a good aftermarket rear.

I don't want to hijack thread, but would drag (or "street drag" tires) ruin a stock A4? I have some basic bolt-ons (full exhaust, open Y-pipe with long headers; lid) and I know the A4 would go before the rear end in contrast to the standard transmission variant of the f-bodies. I want more traction, and other users on this board recommend I get some ET Street Drag tires, with no concerns to my stock trans (460LE I believe? 1998 WS6.)

Finish your exhaust first.
