Default Victory is Mine!!!

Ok, seriously, I changed my plugs this weekend. Not the hardest thing I've eve done on a vehicle, but not a cake walk either. I started with #8. I figured that was supposed to be the worst, might as well get right to it. Man! It took me about 1/2 hour just to get the stupid wiring off!!! Once #8 was done, the rest weren't to bad.

I followed most peoples advice and put NGK TR55's in. The AC's I took out looked like they were the factory plugs ( the camaro has 60k on the odometer ).
What got me though is that every one was glapped at .070. Is that how they're gapped from the factory? Or did they "open up" due to long use? I gapped the NGK's at .050.

Anyways, That's done....for now.....

Congrats. If you didn't, get #8 from the bottom. Piece of cake.

Everybody is saying the #8 plug is a piece of cake from the bottom . I tried to get my #8 out from the bottom and couldnt get my hand up in there to even get a socket on it . Is there a trick to it ? I have yet to get #8 out . . .

Maybe on the other year LS1's it's tougher, but on my '02 I didn't have to drop the starter or anything. I thought I had read one time that the cats were slightly different before '01 and they blocked access to #8.

#8 is really easy to get to from the bottom if you've got longtubes.

I absolutely couldn't get #8 from the top. I had to do it from the bottom. I have pretty big arms and hands so I had to literally force my arm into places it didn't want to go. I ended up with cuts all over the place.

...and that mutherf*cking #8 coil rail bolt landed about 100yards away from my house after I finally got it off.

Ok , so it sounds like i need longtubes to change out my plugs Good way to get the longtubes and it be ok with the wife !

It looks easier from the top with the coil packs removed . I tried my best from the underside to no avail . Is it easy to unbolt the coil packs ? Or is it as hard as replacing the spark plug itself ? Maybe unbolt the starter and try again from the underside ? The cat is definitely in the way . Can't even get my hand around that fugger . . .

From my previous experience I think it is easier from the bottom, on a side note to make it easier on you in the future try pulling the springs out of the boots so it isn't as friggin hard to get the wires off next time.

Congrats on the #8 nightmare. I am dreading when I will have to change my plugs (33,500 miles currently). Also, I am sure someone here can tell you why there was a .070 gap or at least have a good guess ????

#8 plug isn't reachable from underneath on my car. I have MAC headers. I can get to it from the top pretty easy with the MACs since I bought a 1" extension for my ratchet.
