Default Functional Ram Air Question

I just bought a Ram Air II hood and the opening on the front of it are functional. The openings are just above where the lid takes in air. My question is that it lets water into the engine area is this bad? For those of you who have this or the raptor aftermarket hood for the trans ams does the rain get on the engine and if so does it hurt anything?

well what i always wondered was, the WS6 ramair hood isnt functionaly stock, but can you buy an air box for it so it is? if so, is it better than the lids?

Adressing the water in the engine area: Trans ams w/out the ws6 hood also have openings in the front that air goes through - the two bottom holes. So water can still get in the engine area even if you don't have a ram air hood. Its really not anything to worry too much about. Where you run into problems is if water gets through the filter and actually inside the engine. Then, you've got trouble.

Get an air lid, then get the ram air kit from SLP or Fast Toys

There's basically two routes to go:
1)get a lid (of your choice) and a induction kit either SLP, FTRA (Fast Toys), or SSRA (Austin's Super Sucker)

2)If you have a WS6, you could go with the kit that seals the air box to the hood (BGRA?)

Hope this helps

I got a hood+air box from www.ramairhood.com. I haven't installed it yet though. The thing about it I didn't know when I bought it is that you can't use the stock shocks to hold up the hood when it's open. It says it'll cause the hood to warp after a while, and also void the warranty. You have to use a prop rod (which they include). Are all aftermarket hoods like that?

Hoods from US Exotics don't need the prop rod. I friend of mine is running one and was able to us the stock hood shocks/springs. Don't know about other vendors though...

What are they (being ramairhood.com) making their hoods out of that they are that heavy? Most aftermarket ones I have seen are fiberglass and are lighter than stock hoods. I'm assuming it's the weight of the hood that will cause it to warp and not something else.

It's made of a fiberglass-like material. I say fiberglass-like because they say it's not fiberglass, but "engineered plastic" or something. At any rate, its only about 35lbs and not very heavy at all. (Just a little awkward to handle because of it's size).

What would you consider breaking your pockets. Tires help a lot if its an m6.

a lid and the cags delete if you've got an m6. tires are also a good idea

The problem is that the stock springs (shocks / whatever they are called) are trying to push the hood open all of the time, and are especially hard to compress once the hood has been opened. The thinner lighter weight hoods do not have the additional reinforcements required to keep it stiff enough for that, therefore they remove the springs and use a prop rod. Not a bad idea in my book. Of course you could also leave off the hinges alltogether and do a lift off hood. Allthough I am not sure our cars would look very cool with hood pins sticking up out of the hood.

hey what about the FRAM, free ram air mod, like you go inside the RAM AIR and take out the metal that is restricting the air. Several people have told me to do this, is it bad and does it let water in on the engine?
