Depends on your goals. All I wanted was a dependable driver, not a race or drag car. That allowed me to look for and find a very dependable 5.3 liter LM7 and 4l60E trans out of a 1999 GMC Sierra truck and I've been very happy with it.

If you want fast speed or tire smoke, look for a bigger engine. It'll cost you more.

6.0 or 6.2 could probably make the most HP since they will hold up more to boost than LS7 7.0. Without boost a 7.0 would be best bet but it costs a lot more. 5.3 is best bang for buck with boost.

5.3 - availability and thus pricing; aluminum blocks are plentiful and lighter in weight. 6.0 - can make more torque and hp; iron block versions are heavier. 7.0 - good luck finding one and paying for it if you can.

I'm going 6.0 completely stock until it blows up then buy a new 6.0 and keep stock block but then upgrade everything else.

Make sure you get a Gen-4 engine if you plan to boost it. The Gen-3s won't last long. If you blow up a boosted engine, there probably won't be much left to re-use. It's best to build it right the first time.

My plan is gen 4 because can handle 1400+hp but gen 3 can only handle 1400+hp
