Default Launching on a 10-bolt

I have a 4000 stall tc, 3.73 gears, g5x3 cam, lts, and shift kit, but I havent gotten a 12 bolt yet, still have the stock rear end. Also, I have some et streets. How high of an rpm can I safely launch from w/o tearing up my rearend?

i would be careful with the e/t streets. those might leave you sweeping up the rear. if you run e/t's i would lean into the peddle instead of puttin to the floor. if you ran a drag radial (BFG's) you could probably launch it from 2k and then nail it to the floor.

lol not hard. with et streets you're gonna be able to snap that 10 bolt like a tooth pick. wouldn't suggest testing that theory either. launch softly until you can get a 12 bolt.

OUR REARS ARE MORE FORGIVING WITH THE AUTO AND A CONVERTER THAN AN M6 JUST CAUSE THE WAY THEY SHOCK THE REAR WITH A CLUTH DUMP LAUNCH.. i HAVE CUT HIGH 1.5S WITH MY CONVERTER AND STOCK REAR FOR MANY 1/4 MILE RUNS .. i WOULD START THE LAUNCH ON A LOWER RPM AND THEN SEE HOW THE CAR HOOKS AND THEN GO UP FROM THERE, MY CAR LIKED TO BE LAUNCHED OFF IDLE AND THAT PRODUCED THE BEST TIME FOR ME...

Would it be worth it to get a rear end girdle? How much would that help?

Maddox's site rocks...

on topic - you can do any kind of lauch you want with an A4... an M6 on the other hand - if you don't sweet-talk it right and give it complements every other day, it will break just to spite you.

I know a guy that got 500 passes with a 3500 converter and 405 rwhp by preloading the converter before launching. He finally lost the posi unit but $400 later he was back on the track. If you don't preload the conv, its like dumping the clutch which adds major stress on the rear end components. Run it till it blows then see how much the rebuild is. I got a Moser 12 bolt installed and it cost $2800 w/ installation. That's a lot of carrier installs. A4 tend to do much better than M6 cars.

its why its the best site in the universe! the pic isn't showing up in this thread for me but im almost positive is the 7/16ths of an inch pic. lol, gotta love that one.

now launching wise...i've heard the same, a4's you can typically abuse a little more.

not to hi-jack your thread man but I gotta cam and probably another nitrous kit coming in, along with a spec 3 clutch...i still have the stock 10 bolt...is the major issue with these things blowing up due to a hard launch? or are they known to bust shifting into 3rd going down a track? I dont have enough money to afford a 12 bolt or 9 inch...but do you all think itmight be wise in picking up a spare 10 bolt...with say 4.10s in it? considering i can get one for relatively cheap?

It would be a horrible idea to put 4.10's in a 10-bolt. I suggest that you slip the clutch out of the whole and go a little easy on the 1-2 shift. It is a hard shock to the driveline that will blow up the 10-bolt (ex. clutch dumps at the line, slamming the 1-2 shift etc.). I would also suggest picking up a used TA girdle. It can help prevent one kind of rear-end failure.

sorry for the off-topic posting back to A4's

I may be speaking without knocking on wood but my car with nitto DRs gets low 1.8X 60' with the mods in my sig.I leave hard enough that I think it will break every pass but so far so good.I heat the tires for a few seconds and at the line I rev the car a few times and slip the clutch to get a sort of tire spin non-bog launch, this works best.I have burned the tires and left at 4K but it boggs and get a high 1.8X and hurts the ET up to 2 tenths.I would leave at 5.5K but I think the rear end will snap for sure.I have seen a few mag write ups with a girdle and cover kit with A4s getting 1.6-1.7 with no problems.I don't think 10 bolts are as bad as many make out but driven ragged they will break.I watched a 98 GT scatter an 8.8 on the starting line last night and he was running a whopping 14.0@100 with slicks .

Put left foot on brake. Right foot on gas (until you get your desired rpm). Green light, lift left foot, push right foot.
