If you can't afford to keep the car buy something older. I drove a 35 year old pickup when I was in high school and college. Dropped a small block in it, made it look good and learned alot doing it. I still have the truck and I get alot more looks driving it than my car, but I also have more money tied up in it than my car. Whatever you do, don't become a ricer!!!

What's your car payment? Have you gotten any other insurance quotes to see if you can actually afford to keep your car?
You sure that your parents aren't just bluffing you or something?

If you can't swing the insurance on an LS1 and you would like to still go fast, may i suggest an 87-93 mustang 5.0 coupe? They can be had for very cheap, and mods are even cheaper ($250 for long tube headers). Not to mention they wake up very nicely with mods.

Try changing the comphensive deductable and limited tort options to see if it drops enough. Might be able save a least a few hundred that way but before you sell it sit down witha insurance agent and try to work something out. My agent saved a few hundred by explaining what all the insurance options and helping me decide.

Toadman has a good point. What is your deductible right now? If you have a grand in savings you could take your deductible to $1000 and see what that does to your rates. But do not, i repeat DO NOT **** with the limits of coverage, you can never have too much coverage. 100K 300K 100K is the absolute minimum i will hve on a car policy (i think it is like 10K 25K 10K on my bike policy, but that is liability only).
To be honest $1400/6 months is pretty good for a 17 year old for full coverage.
But like i said, if you can't afford the LS1 get an old 5.0 fox body.

Better yet... get a 3rd gen and throw a LS1 in it. Best of both worlds! Cheap insurance, and great powertrain. (better handling in the 3rd gen too IMO).
