Default Oil Change??

I did my last oil change on August 1, of this year with 20,000 miles. YesterdaySept. 20, at 21,000 miles when I turned on the car a light came on and said "Change Oil" for about 2 minutes then went away. I stopped the car checked the oil level it was O.K. so I turned on the car again and the light came back on again.
So I proceeded to buy a quart of oil just added some to the engine. I went and checked the oil level and it was now perfect. Turned the car back on again and the light was still there for about 2 minutes again. Now every time that I turn on the car the light comes back on then goes away!!

What does that mean and what do I do??

Thanks for the help.

Did you reset your "Change oil" light when you changed your oil?

Try this:Turn the igintion switch on. Do not crank the car! Hold down the reset trip button until the light goes out.

My oil change light is doing that right now but its not due for an oil change for several hundred miles so i have just been ignoring it. the last time i reset it i used a differant method than 1FastSS said. Im not sure of the exact order but i turned the key on, off, on a couple time then put the gas pedal to the floor like 3 times. some body jump in with the exact way of doing this, but it worked for me last time.

mine did the same thing once, i took it to the dealership and felt like a moron after he sat down, put key forward, and hit the gas 3 times like you said... ouch

It all depends on the last time it was reset. If you went 500 miles over on an oil change but reset the light when it initially came on, then the light will come on 500 miles prior to needing changed again.

Man, I read that and it is confusing....I hope you understand.
