I bought my 98 Z used and it has the 12 disc changer monsoon cd deck in it. THe display says "locked"
I have a call in to the previous owner hoping that he will get back to me (highly doubt that)
I called the local Chevy dealer and they want 35.00 to do it... what a rip off.
Does anyone know of a way to do this myself???
Thanx in advance!!!

Sorry to hear that. I locked mine up, too. Paid the $35, and went on my way. I guess it would help to know someone at the dealership, I didn't.
Just remember to keep the number for future use!

Wow... $35... when i did that, i just took it up to the pontiac dealership and the guy just did it. No charge. Its just a four digit number... and it takes like 20 seconds... $35 is rediculous.... Try calling them again and just give them your vin number and tell them to look it up.

same thing happened to me awhile back, and i had no idea what the original owners number was any more so i tried the default code; all 0's and it worked. its worth a shot and you can't lose anything. i don't remember exactly how to do it, but its in the manual and pretty straight forward

Ok everyone out there here is how to unlock a radio without knowing the code.First things first.Unless someone enters a their personal code into a radio it will never lock after you disconnect the battery. Also you can not look up a radio code by vin.If a radio locks up and you have no idea what the code is here is what you do.Press and hold the 2 and 3 presets a 3 digit display will appear.Write this number down.Next press the am fm button will appear.Write this number down.Next you need a dealer code number.Next dial 1 800 537 5140 and follow the prompts. It will give you a 4 digit back up unlock code.Use the hour and minute buttons to set the code and the press the am fm button.I will give you guys a dealer code for another Chevy dealer in Chicago(not the one i work at) use dealer code #11223 when calling the 1 800 #.

Note that the code you will receive from GM will be a permanent "hardwired" code. In other words, even if you choose to enter your own code that you easily remember, both your # and the GM one will unlock the radio.
