Weight Questions z28,ss,transam
Well posted this in the wrong forum so im posting in here now. I did a search but didnt really find all that much that was helpful, or i just overlooked the links/thread. Was wondering if their is a weight difference between the Camaro and Trans Am. THis is a list of the cars if someone can put them in order from heavist to lightest from the factory that would be awesome. Lets jsut say they all ahve t-tops and leather because alot alot alot of them do.
Camaro SSw/slp
Camaro SS
Z28
Trans Am ws6 w/ hood
Trans Am ws6 w/no hood (formula)
I know at lease a few people on here who would like to know this. Exact weights would be cool. Just trying to compare and then compare to other cars (vette,viper,cobra,etc...)

I know mine is one of the lightest Z28s. Only options on my car are the rear defroster, hurst shifter, and a cd changer in the trunk. Anyone here own a "stipper" that they've weighed? I'm curious to see what my car actually weighs.

a z28, fully optioned with leather, ac, etc weighs 3440...after removing the all the ac, bumper supports, panhard supprot brace, back seat, spare tire and jack, replacing front seats with lightweight ones, front sway bar and brackets, windshield washer fluid and resovoir, and misc. small stuff like the horn, etc...mine weighed in at 3250.

It all depends on options.
Firehawk TA, WS6 TA or regular TA will be heaviest, they get all options period plus ground effects.
Firehawk Formula, WS6 Formula, regular Formula, Z28, SS, and SLP SS will all be close with the same options. And they won't be much lighter than a TA if fully loaded (with in 100 lbs.).
My `99 SS A4 was 3660 lbs. with me in it (210 lbs.), spare still in, and 1/2 tank of gas. Only "weight reduction" was from a Loudmouth catback and smaller converter.

SS (slp options dont change the weight to anything worth measuring)
Z28
Formula
Formula w/ ws6 package
TA
TA w/ ws6 package
there is no "trans am ws6 w/ no hood (formula)"
IMO order would be:
z28/formula
SS
TA
Formula w/ ws6
TA w/ ws6
what it comes down to though is options; sound, tires, power windows, T-tops, leather, tranny, ect.

I went to the dealer to get the color code (just curious), and he pulled up like some vehicle specs with all the options on the car, and it said the build weight was ~4200 lbs. IS THAT NORMAL? everybody else is like 600-800 lbs less than that!!

That's probably the max weight the car can be safely. If you look in the door jam you'll see 4XXX lbs. printed on the RPO sticker. That's the weight of the car + full tank of gas + something like 150 lbs. per seat + 100 something lbs. of cargo.

That scale may be wrong.

Also, there is no exact set weight for a certain car. Two cars having the same exact options/equipment, can be different weights. It seems every car from the factory is a little bit different, though you can usually get a pretty good idea. Just keep that in mind.
