Is the WS6 Firebird a lower luxery (stripped down) Trans Am. What about the formula? How can I tell if it's a F-Bird or Trans Am by looking at it?
Thx

There is no WS6 Firebird. The WS6 only came in the Formula and Trans Am. There was a sport appearence option (I think thats the option name) that has ground effects and dual cast aluminum exhaust tips like the Trans Am has.
You can tell mostly by the wing. The Trans Am (WS6's and Firehawks) have a wing that is off the rear deck lid and the Firebird's wing is flush with the rear deck.
The Formula's are stealth, they look like V6's. If it says Firebird on the door then its a V6.
Peace,
Craig.

A real WS6 has WS6 listed as an RPO code on the door sticker drivers side.

If it was 98' to 00' then the Formula had the WS6 option.

The difference between a TA and a TA WS-6 is the WS-6 is a TA with a special Performance package. Difference is WS-6 has a Ram-Air hood (funtional), an upgraded exhaust system, sport tuned suspension, and I do believe that the rear wing is a bit taller. HP rating on the regular TA is 310hp, the WS-6 is 325hp, which is believed by many to be an underating. So to answer the orignal question a WS-6 is NOT "A lower luxary (stripped down) version of a Trans Am."

2. You can throw that information right out the window.

Actually there were no I4 F-bodies but there were some I4 Mustangs in the early 1980's (some were even turbos).

An "Oval BOY" that currently does not have the privlege that I have to "OWN" a LS1 Trans Am has brought it to my attention that the rear wing on all Firebirds (regardless of model), are the same. That MAY BE TRUE!!! I said that I believed that the rear spoiler was a bit taller, I never sad that it was 100% fact. As far as the rest of my info goes...I've done my research on a car that I OWN and that is what I've found.

Firebird V6 & Formula (V8)
Low-Profile wing that is molded into the hatch.
TransAm (V8)
High-profile wind that stands above the hatch.
The above statements are valid regardless of performance/appearance package applied to the vehicle.
Example:
WS6 & Firehawk Formula have the same wing as the base Formula. Although the later Firehawks had and optional add-on to the wing that basically adds a LED third-brake light across its length instead of the one in the center.
WS6 T/A and base T/A have the same wing.
