What do you mean??? You are basically in neutral when you press the clutch and you will pass through neutral when you shift. I guess I just don't understand the question. Are you saying these guys shift from 1st to neutral, let out the clutch, depress the clutch than shift to second????

yup exactly isn't it the craziest thing you've ever heard??
1.In first gear
2.Push clutch in
3.Pull out of 1st go to neutral, wiggle right and left while in neutral to double check in neutral.
4. Put in 2nd gear
5. Let out clutch

These guys need educating!

So they're double-clutching every gear. Maybe they used to be truck drivers.....in bigger trucks you have to do that or just float the gears which is shifting without the clutch.

My idea of neutral is when the shifter naturally settles in below 3rd and above 4th- clutch in or out.

less wear on synchros...if you don't have them you have to shift like this in order to not grind

I only pause in neutral before going into gear when I'm shifting without the clutch....

That's how my wife shifts. No really, that's how she shifts. I'm thinking about telling her or showing her how to shift the next time I get a chance.
