Default Camaro fans, I need help!!!

First thinks for lookin.

I am looking into buying a camaro, but im just not sure on the year . Im planning on throwing on a 383 stroker right when I buy the car. Then later doing head, cam, full exaust, drag radials, and maybe a procharger. So anyone have ideas for a year? I was thinking 93 because it has the new body style and ill probably put in a new engine, but i also like the 80's so i need help.

Thanks

are you going to make the motor into a 383 or do you have the 383 motor already to drop in, if you dont have the motor already, id say go with the LS1 (98+) because ive heard theres nothing you have to machine on the block to put a stroker in, and im pretty sure you can find 98+ camaros for 6K, my friend is looking for a Trans AM and he keeps finding them around 8-9K and camaros are ususlly cheaper than firebirds

Do some research and you'll realize it's not just as easy as throwing together a 383 (or any combo) to make power. IMO, the biggest reason to go with a stroker is the torque. From the sounds of it, you'd be better off (especially financially) to go with a 3rd gen. I wouldn't know why you'd want a Z28 or SS if you don't really care about anything other than putting the engine in the thing. Just buy a V6 car and do the swap. It'll save you money.

My favorite is the 67 and 02 being that I have one of each. But I think the 80-81 Z28 looks good to. IMO

yep, i would suggest a 3rd gen v6 as well.. it will save you money. With that said I have a 91 rs v6 camaro with a perfect body and only 42,000 miles on it if you would like it buy it

well you would have a hard time finding an ls1 car for 6k but its possible, all you would need is a good body to start with. you could just get a stripper car with no motor and trans. what is your budget beyond the cost of the car? ls1 parts are expensive. the cheapest route is a 3rd gen, you can even pick up ones that already have 383 motors and beefed up trans for like $5k and less. a built 383 ls1 will probably end up costing like $10k+ not including the cost of the car. the ls1 will destroy the 3rd gen anyday and still get 20+mpg, but it pays to play. imo the lt1s are nice but its a lot easier to work on an ls1 and would cost about the same to mod.

if you have the ability, a 3rd gen with an ls1 would be awesome. i love the looks of the iroc z. i plan on eventually doing a swap like this, if not a 1st gen with an ls1 would be sweet. you really cant beat the power of the ls1, with a cam, longtubes, and intake you can have close to 400rwhp.

you cant just build a 383 stroker and expect to use the stock heads and especially the stock cam. you will see much more gains from doing really nice heads/cam and using stock cubic inches. when you get tired of a heads/cam car, you can build to a 383. when you get bored with that, you can put the procharger on it.

building a fast car isnt about who has the most cubic inches under their hood. you will find that once you start making power you will start breaking things left and right. this is a long process, not somthing that can be done over night.

IMO Get an older V6, and pay it off, don't mod it just put all your money into paying it off. Get some driving experience under your belt and THEN mod it... nothing more dangerous than a 16 year old with a license with 400+ hp ( yes, there are some exceptions )... that's just a time bomb waiting to go off...

i say get an LT1, im sure you can find a 95+ z28 in your price range. check ebay, camaroz28.com, ect for prices.

i agree with everything else thats been stated, you really have no idea what your getting into, so keep it simple for now.

its obvious he has no clue what he's talking about. what were trying to do is first of set him in the right direction on choosing a car.
