Default strange noise

Hey guys i need some help. I know that the ls1's have piston slap at start up but when the car is warm it still has a loud tapping sound almost like a clutch sound. It never goes away. Is this something I should worry about. I apreciate any help.!!

sounds like a bent pushrod maby? pull the valvecovers and rockers and check, not very hard, just need basic tools and a tq wrench to tq the rocker arms back down to 22ft/lbs.

does it vary with engine speed? does clutch engagement/disengagement have any affect at all?

Might be your lifters. My buddy's 02 TA, had sludge build up on the lifters, due to lack of oil changes from previous owner. Made almost like a clanking, ticking noise from under the hood. Hopefully thats not the case for you, $1600 repair.

Yeah if you have a loud tapping noise after the motor gets warm that is something to worry about. Like said above it could be valvetrain related. Bent pushrods are common with M6 cars. Are you sure it's not detonation?

yes answering these will help pinpoint the problem more. could just be a bad gasket or something.

i'm replacing my lifters right now, they were only like 200 bux for comp 850s. my heads are off and i'm waiting on my valvesprings. i just cleaned the heads up and am putting them back on because i dont have enough dough for new ones right now.

pushrods are a 1hr job for disassembly / reassembly if you have the right tools and ability, i would check those out first. i have a whole set of stockers +1 brand new one that are perfectly straight. i'll let 'em go cheap

the sound is louder under the car. if you stick your head in the engine compartment it doesn't sound like it's coming from the top end. If you bend down it's pretty loud. Clutch engagement has no effect on noise but when i rev the car up a little the noise gets louder and then fades as the rpm's go down. Getting worried please help!!
