I've had my Z28 up to around 140, and let me tell you it was a little nervewracking doing that speed on a stock suspension with close to 80K on it. I'll not be doing it again till I get some new suspension goodies, SFC's, and sway bars.

radio626active: Good points. People do have to use common sense more than they do, in general. This why choosing the best time and place are so important. My example was as perfect as you are going to get. Over one mile of bridge that is about three lanes wide with concrete walls on either side (seperting me from river and me from oncoming lanes) and nobody in front of me for a couple miles, with no passengers.

Can't beat that.

And about goign to the track. Yeah, that's fun, but I can't go 135 mph at the drag strip.....yet.

My buddy has a 00 zrx 1100 and we were driving, he hit it at 70, so I decided to go (of course he went way down the road). Caught him at 130, and took it to 155 in 5th, with the t-tops out, the windows down and the front air-dams (headlights) up!

Went to pass someone on I-40, looked down & saw 105 mph! She was just warming up, I believe!

I haven't tested my current C5, but I had my previous C5 Vert up to 145 and it had plenty left. The only thing that shook me was the noise from the convertible. Also had my Lexus GS 400 up to 145... and you want to talk about bad brakes?! That thing was shaking like a *** at a weenie roast trying to shut it down.

Not to downplay your speed of 105 mph, but I've had the cruise control set for 100 mph continuous on two hour drives. At that speed, I'm using about 27 % of the car's total horse power.

Yes, here's a few links for ya . . . first of all, here's the 130 club and 150 club member list. Note that my name is on the distinguished short list for the 150 club. Only one new car made it last year (but two new names, brothers.) At least half of the 150 club vehicles are sport bikes; it takes more than you might think to go fast on salt.

I've run the 95 up to 144, had the 00 up to 146 on the road, and 162 on the dyno. Had the 01 up to somewhere in the 140's. All three are A4's, and all of them had pedal left.

One of my lifetime goals is to click off 250MPH in a car, it's probably what's going to kill me eventually. Every year I get older it looks less and less attractive though.

I do think way too many people drive at high speeds taking unnecessary risks and putting others in danger, but who am I to cast stones. My driving record is clean, but it's only because I know how to use the system against itself, and have paid thousands of dollars in fines. The last year alone has cost me over $1k for four tickets (2 for 11 over, one for "defective fog lights" and one for 38 over.)

I've slowed way the hell down again. I get bad about every 5 years.

I took my car out one day going out of town for work. Didn't even expect to do it but I decided to make a top speed run. I could see for about 5-6 miles down the road from where I was at and I was already doing 120 so it didn't take me long. I set my HPP3 governor at 170 and hit it at 5700 rpms. I think I could have got a couple more out of her. Only time I have done it and I'll never do it again. This kinda stuff is too dangerous on a public road, even if there is no one else there. I know most people aren't going to plan a top speed run but at least try to wear a helmet and get a roll bar with a safety harness. Definitely check your tires (all must be free of any patches or plugs) and go over your suspension before you do it checking all the bolts and greasing everything up nicely. I say this because I felt kinda scared doing this run on the road I did it on. It had some small hills on it and at that speed, they turn to short ramps instead of long hills. Floating without your front tires on the ground is hardly safe so be careful.

Thanks for the info Cal ... curious what would the speed of a stock 02 F-body be in a mile... on stock 17 tires. From what I was reading about the 130 club... it was really painful for owners to realize they could not reach the 130 mph goal in one measured mile... just want to know if a stock f-body is capable of getting to 130 within 1.0 mile.. on salt

0-60 in 3.4 sec and then 700 mph or Mach 0.96 in an F-16 Fighting Falcon at only 1K feet.

You can do it no problem with a stock 02 fbody. At the one mile marker I was doing 161 mph with throttle left. Only mods at that time were TR224 114 cam and SLP Loud Mouth exhaust. I was even running stock exhaust manifolds and cats. The cats were toast after three runs, though.

A stock 02 with M6 can do a little over 170 mph on pavement, so that equates to around 155 on salt. Your car is capable of more than you think.

I can't mention any names, but we have a maverick F-16 Pilot that made a .98 mach pass at about 40 feet out on the test range. The test guys were standing on a hill about that high, and he was at eye level, a rock's throw away. It was the most impressive fly-by ever. The pilot denied he did it later, so my friends pulled his HUD camera tape. All they saw was a gloved hand turning off the HUD!

Drove out to Big Bend National park out here in west Texas, inbetween Terlingua and Alpine is a road that is about 45 miles long, straight and flat. No cops at all for miles, this place is so flat you can see the back of your own head. No other traffic for hours. Did about 175 mph playing grab-*** with a very nasty ZO6 (yep, we both had the windows down!). We enjoyed a beer afterwards in Terlingua. Did well over 170 mph on a closed airport runway just a couple of months ago.

Open road racing is THE way to go IMO!!!

West Texas is the place to be if you're gonna do anything like that. I don't see many troopers around here unless its between Midland/Odessa. They know that racers turn that 25 mile stretch to a road course. I'll admit, I did it with a viper 2 months ago.

Cal,
I'm in Northern Utah too. Can you tell me how/when Bonneville is open for this sort of thing? Contact site/number?
Thanks
p.s. Have you been by/are you member of Utah F-Body Association? (http://www.ufba.org/)
p.p.s. I have an '02 SS convertible with a newly installed STS turbocharger and intercooler, 8lbs, no dyno yet, plan to do in October at UFBA event.

Hi dacook,
I think I'm a ufba member, but not totally sure, LOL. I was at the last dyno day and the last RMR drag, plus the last two ufba AX events. But then I go to almost all of the AX events, whether a ufba day or not. I'm more active in the Utah SCCA, here's a link to their forum. I prefer autoX to drag racing.
http://forums.utahscca.com/

Scroll up about 10 posts and you will see my post with all the links to the Salt Flats stuff. Most of them have the same parent link of
http://www.saltflats.com/

The World of Speed is usually in September at the Salt Flats. The flats aren't dry enough until then. BTW, I think you will dyno over 500 rwhp with that setup, enough to go 200 mph on the flats. But be aware, they have much higher saftey equipment requirements of forced-induction cars. That's one reason I decided to go NA with cam and heads.
