Welcome to the boards! This thread will probably get moved because it has nothing to do with external engine. I would put money on the Camaro. The factory horsepower ratings are known to be understated on these cars. That 305 hp number is probably close to what it is putting out at the rear wheels. I don't know if that is the same for the Cobra, but I would guess Ford also states their HP numbers at the crank. Plus, this is an LS1 board...and the LS1 rulz mad tight yo.
I'm sure others will chip in.
Again welcome.

All the Super charged Cobras I've seen dyno pulled 370+ at the rear wheel. These were stock cars. two of them still with window stickers. The stock supercharged ones would take a stock Z or SS or WS6 I would think. But hey do have to have the superchargers to do it. Before I modded my car, I tangled with several Mach Ones and they are an outright joke. The only stock mousestains that put up a fight are the Cobra Supercharged cars. I would like to have one but man they are a bitch to work on. My buddy had to pull a head on his, what a nightmare! Would have been easier to drop the engine out first!

This is the

When stock:
LS1 = Mach 1 (driver's race)
LS1 < S/C 03/04 Cobra
LS1 > All other GT's, Cobras

I would still put the Z over the mach one. Ls1s take time to break in and gain power later down the road. Mach ones claim a 305hp(crank), but maros have that to the rear wheels.

But machs have better gearing. It is essentially a drivers race.

I have never seen a Mach one stock that could compete with my WS6 when it was Stock. I am not sure but I do not think there was much difference in the Z to my W. I know they claimed more power in my W but it is heavier I think.

LS1's have 3.42 vs. the 3.55's in the mach, but because of our trannies, our stock gearing is equivalent to 4.10's in a mustang. I agree most of the time it would be a drivers race, but I think stock for stock the LS1's generally run faster times. There is no replacement for displacement.

its all about whom the better driver is!
mustangs come out of the hole better than f-bodies but dont have half the topend of the ls1
so as long as you held your own out of the hole then you will enjoy doing a 3rd gear fly-by

if a stock ls1 was racing a stock non-03/04 cobra, i would gather up as much cash as i could to put on the race as long as the driver in the ls1 isn't learning stick for the first time. Even against a mach 1, you would probably have to smoke the tires through all of first gear to not cath up to it up top.

Mach 1's are no slouch. If you get a crappy launch you may not be able to run them down. Of course, if you get a good launch and are a good driver with a strong car.... (even if only by a little bit)

i have never seen so much stupidity in a thread on ls1tech than this one in all my life...the only person who knows what they are talking about is blkz28spt...mach's run equivalent times as stock ws6's/ss's...03/04 cobras will win, and all other mustangs will lose...period...it's been proven over and over again

fwiw both the mach1 and the SS/WS6 have hit 12.9 stock...

All goes back to my little equation looking post:

When stock:
LS1 = Mach 1 (driver's race)
03/04 Cobra > LS1
LS1 > All other GT's, Cobras

I was looking at mach1registry the other day, and there is a video of a mach 1 with 300rwhp running 12.6 @ 109. He only has an x-pipe and K&N filter I believe. The only weight reduction he has is a removed spare tire and 1/4 tank of gas. This guy might have a factory freak, but nonetheless it's pretty impressive. I still think most stock ls1's do outrun most stock mach 1's though.

Exactly. It seems that the "I own an F-body so Mustangs are always slower" attitude is growing on this site. By reading some of the posts on this board you'd think stock LS1's were 11 secon cars by the way people exaggerate or misinterpret the capabilities of the LS1 vs the Cobra/Mach 1/modified Mustangs.

My buddy has a 1998 Cobra 5-spd with a .20 overbore and JE pistons, fully rebuilt engine w/ 5k on the rebuild. I have a bone-*** stock 1998 LS-1 Trans Am with a 4L60E automatic and 79K on the clock. When we raced, his best run had been a 14.6 'til he raced me. It was 3 in the morning, I'd just shown up still in my work clothes and pulled a 14.07 w/ a .6 light on the Pro Tree outta my *** with no warmup. (it was his 4th run that night). I guess my F-body lit a fire under his *** and he pulled a 14.02 w/ a .4 light. before the rebuild, I'd have spanked him. As it is, I believe I have a legitimate chance to blow his doors off if I can just get enough time off work to get more than 1 run per night.
