Default Fastest at School

So yea, Im 17 and own the car in my sig. I am a junior in High School and I pay for the car payment and any mods that I hope to get ALONE. Insurance is the killer, which I will go on in September (when I start driving it). I am a car enthusiast, big time. But now, to the point.
Some dorky kid at school had his mom buy him a '03 EVO 8 for his 18th b-day. I've riden in it as well as a few of my friends. This kid CANNOT drive whatsoever! He has never raced an LS1, which I keep pushing him to do. So with my car at home, washed, waxed and in the garage (I currently drive my dad's old '88 Toyota pickup 4x4 4cyl on 31s 5spd) he is the fastest car at school. I know mine is quicker (his is stock as well) but he is telling everyone that he plans on heavily modding his EVO. He just ordered a BOV (whoo-hoo) as his first. SO yea, my question is what should I start modding with? I have roughly $1500 saved up. I was looking at starting with wheels and tires, but since I have some competition, I need some performance goodies to keep my "title". Im thinking really hard about some QTP LTs with the y-pipe that includes QTECS(electric cutouts) which is about $1500. Also, Im not worried about spending all of my savings. I will be working a ton this summer in which I will get much more money.
Im kinda worried about what to get though. Later on, I would like to S/C or H/C my car (for graduation present perhaps)- so I dont want to have to redo any mods, ya know. Opinions???

If I had that much money to spend on my car I would get a cam or maybe for a little more a heads/cam package.

Otherwise, i'd go with a good nitrous setup

if i were you i'd save $1500 for your insurance. that way you'll still be able to drive it in a few months. full coverage ain't cheap on these cars

Well could I get a H/C package, and THEN get a S/C???
I was thinking if I did the S/C, then I would get a cam that was complementary to it. But, since S/Cs are pretty expensive, I was going to do the H/C (first, and maybe only H/C)- but if I can get a mild H/C, then I could upgrade to the S/C with the same set up, if that's possible.

Insurance is full coverage due to the loan that was taken out. I pay my parents and they pay the loan back with my money. I pay $300 a month ($266ish for the car, and the $34 goes to insurance lol). So my parents are helping me out with the insurance, that's it.

I have a much better Idea. Start with bolt-ons, and learn how to drive the car. I am not trying to be an ***, but you really need to get alot of seat time and get comfortable with the car start thinking about h/c or s/c setups. The last thing you want is to wreck the car before you can really enjoy it. To tell you the truth, if anything just put a small dry shot on the car. You can hide the entire system and he will never know what hit him.

And make sure to get all of the safety features and a tune and plugs and everything you need to run it safely on your engine.

I took no offense. Like I said, Im a car enthusiast and I know rather well that the driver is one of the most important things about a car. I need to get used to the power as well. I go from the 70rwhp (MAYBE lol) toyota to the ~300rwhp T/A. Oh, and the H/C and then (hopefully) S/C would come in over a year, so Ill have plenty of seat time as well as bolt ons.

Im just asking what should my first mods be?

Get your basic bolt-ons like a lid, pulleys, headers, cat back and all your free mods. These should be your basic essentials before you get a supercharger or a heads and cam package this way you could maximize your HP once you do get a power adder or heads and cam.

Just be safe though and don't do anything stupid because then you will end up with a big paper weight in your garage instead of a badass F-body.

to be honest with you, unless you plan on visiting the drag strip a decent amount, i would do this and ONLY this:
1)Headers and cutout
2)lid
3)Subframe Connectors
4)Pro 5.0 shifter and Lou's short stick
These cars can be money pits. Save your money for more important things. I think with the above mods i listed, you'll have some performance, sound, handling, and a good shifter. JMHO-peace

Good advice. I'd do the above mods and a lid and a cutout. That's about all the power you need my friend.

free mods, lid, catback or cutout, shifter of some sort, suspension, headers, clutch, the list goes on and on, just screw around on some of the sponsors websites, and make a list with prices, and blow the 1500...you should be able to afford quite a few mods w/ that amount of money.

Its kind of funny that you of all people tell him he doesnt need more power, is there something wrong with it when you have to much? Youd know much better than I.

I was referring to his age. When I was 16yo I put my TA into a ditch at 100mph. That was after I ripped the front end off another car...

Gotta learn respect first and understand how to handle the power. Respect for power was something I didn't have. There are reasons why guys don't jump right to 7 second cars.

A lid, cutout, tires, and a shifter will make his LS1 extremely fun yet controllable. There aren't many 17yo's that can handle 600+rwhp.

no point in wasting money just to beat some tool at school. save the money for insurance, gas, or anything else that might come up.
