Default What happens when you hit the rev limiter?

I'm just curious. I've had my LS1 for about 3 months now, and I have drove it hard a few times, but always shift around 5600 on the factory tach, so that should be about 6000 actually right? I've read that the tach is "slow" catching up. I'm getting a Raptor soon, but I've seen all the "bounce off the rev limiter" phrases, so what actually happens to the engine and your revs? Thanks for the info.

you can shift closer to 6k, i've never heard of 5600 being 6000, i shift my buddys ss right before redline when im on it, the rev limiter is actually just a fuel cut off set to specific rpm

The tachs are slow, but only slow to initially respond. I had no problem shifiting at 6000rpm. Or better yet, get a shiftlight.

So the fuel gets cut off? So does the engine just kinda stutter then until the rpms drop or I shift? What does it sounds like? Will it just get rough or is it like my engine is getting kicked in the nuts?

It's there to protect your investment, your car. If you want, hit it once in your car. One time won't do damage, that's why it's there. To let you know you are ******* up.

You bouce off the limiter, you will definitely know what this sounds like if you do it. The car doesn't shut off.

Every play any car video games? Its seriously very similar to GT4(or just about any other game).
You rev, it hits the limiter, then "bounces" (it looks like the tach bounces) off, and goes for it again (if your still at the throttle).

Yes it bounces. Your rpms will drop off a little bit and then come up back, but you will probably bounce a couple times because it does it really fast.

The car does make a shudder sound, that's just cause the computer cuts the fuel.

No, the rev limiter is there to prevent damage. I wouldn't do it, but I don't see how it can hurt your engine/car. Now if you over-rev, ie miss a shift, then that will damage your engine/car. You won't have to worry about that though since you have an auto
