Default Got my baby today (1st impression)

Well, picked her up today. 2001 box stock WS6. She's a beauty. Got it shipped in from Ohio (now in Canada).

So first impressions:

-Owned a 95 Stang before this, and it doesn't have the same low end torque of the 302. Lots of power mid and up top. I will start modding to correct this. I find it hard to spin em, I guess I have to get use to this. I also, hate the quietness of the stock exhaust, that will change real soon. Gonna do full exhaust/lid and dyno tune with ls1 edit.

So, will I get more low end with this set up?

The traction control, I am pretty sure I don't have it. Is the button supposed to be by the shifter where the cigerette lighter is???

That's all I can think of. Let the modding begin.

Ryan

on camaro's the TCS (ASR) is above the airvents, on TA's its by the cig lighter. so if the switch isnt there, you dont have it

I honestly don't know what you are talking about. The '95 stangs ran low 15's. How can you say the ls1 doesn't have the low-end of a low 15 second car If you can't spin the tires, or are "having a hard time spinning the tires", there is something VERY wrong.

You know, I understand him not being able to spin the wheels. When I bought my Z brand new, I couldn't spin them at all. But with practice I can now.

Spinning the tires easily is not necessarily a sign of power/torque. The low 15 second mustangs are a perfect example.

What is it you have to get use to? Having the power to run solid 13's bone stock in a car that puts all that power to the ground?

Congrats on the car.

My car spun too much when it was stock. 315 Nitto 555R's cured that

Grats on the car your gonna love it!

My car will start spinning around 3k rpm's in first not bad but enough for it to slide around a little. Maybe my tires suck? Yokohama avs100 275's. maybe I need some 315 nitto's as well

Lol I can't stop spinning em. Not even trying at stop lights and ****, I can spin them to easliy. Make sure Traction control isn't on and you don't have it. Maybe you have good tires i'm running 285/40/17 really really blad so thats the problem here. Its all good in time you will not even be able to compare the mustang to it

I hope you arent saying you want to modify the motor to improve the power in the cars low RPM range. These cars like to work up top. Dont waste your time/money on the low end like an LT1. Concentrate on bringing up the midrange top end power and have a nice power curve throughout.

As for the exhaust. Im sorry, but if I had to do it over again, I wouldnt have gone with 3" exhaust and no cats. I would have just gotten an electric cut-out before one of the cats and that'd be it. Once you take off the cats on these cars and put on a really well flowing exhaust its gonna be loud and raspy as all hell. Not worth it IMO if youre going to be daily driving it.

Either way, just do alot of research on these boards and find out peoples afterthoughts etc on mods you're looking to do and learn from everyone elses mistakes. It's gonna be a fun ride. Enjoy!

The reason the Mustang feels like it has more low end grunt is all due to gearing. 1st gear in a T56 is a 2.66:1 ratio. In a Mustang, its 3.35:1 ... Rear axle gears are somewhat similar.

The best modification you can make right away on a six-speed F-body is 4.10 gears. It really wakes the car up, and you still cruise at or under 2000 RPM on the freeway. After that, the sky is the limit

Brains, how much do 4.10 gears change the engine rpm while on the interstate? I thought the rpms would be a lot higher than that. What would the rpm be at 70?

Enjoy it! I have been driving LS1 F-bodies since early '98 and their power still amazes me..

Not if you choose the right muffler. SLP dual/dual, hooker, and magnaflow are my picks, in that order, for high flow, rasp free performance. Trust me, the SLP dual/dual does not rasp or get very loud at all even with a ORY.
