Default First time to the track....

however, this isnt' one of those stories where i say " holy **** my car ran so much better than i thought." rather, i think it ran slower than it should have, but i'd like to get some other peoples numbers for comparison purposes with similar mods...
unfortunatley, this was on an 1/8 mile track since we don't have a 1/4 here.
the car kept getting slower after each run which is understandable considering the high humidity and temp.

basically i went 81.94 mph, then 81.24, 80.68 and finally 81.20. i'm not as concerned about my times since i have horrible 60' times around 2.2. i realize that if i can get that to 1.8 or so my et will be much better.

my mods are: pacesetter LT's, true 3" dual exhaust with H pipe and dynomax race bullets before the rear axle, k&n, lid and free cold air.

are my mph's pretty much in line with any of you guys with similar mods?

fwiw, my times were 9.07, 9.47, 9.45, 9.40..

any idea what those would be around in the 1/4?

i ran my car for the first time like 3 months ago at the 1/8 completely stock, not even a lid and on the stock tires and rims. i have a 1999 TA auto. my best was a 2.000 60' at 84 MPH with a 8.72 ET. first time at the track for me also. it was 75-80 degrees. was your car hooking at all? you should be in the 8.4 range with your mods easy i would imagine

lots of hook. no wheelspin to speak of. temps about 85* and 90% humidity and 210 degree engine temps.

well the only thing that would hurt your 60' like that was just more practice at the dragstrip. me running an auto just has to put in drive and mash the gas lol. if its not driver error then i dont know. sorry if im coming off like an *** but you did say it was your first time at the track, just takes practice with an M6. good luck

Ive gone to the track 2 times. 4 runs total. Every time was in the 9.1. 9.0 range. either i spun the tires or bogged the engine. this was before the headers though. Everytime in the 83 mph

I need practice

oh, no it's cool! definitely harder than racing at a stoplight! a great launch at a stoplight is a crappy launch at the track i've found.

i know what you mean. I can get, what i feel is a decent launch from stop lights, but i go to the track and there different thing involved. Like being ready for the lights and the biggest thing, ADRENINLINE.

1st time with the m6 at the track here were my times in order:

60ft....2.076
1/8th....8.553
mph....85.39
1/4....13.133
mph....107.66

60ft....2.069
1/8th....8.576
mph....85.23
1/4....13.170
mph....107.40

60ft....2.065
1/8th....8.561
mph....85.39
1/4....13.144
mph....107.92

60ft....2.071
1/8th....8.520
mph....86.04
1/4....13.074
mph....108.44

60ft....2.050
1/8th....8.462
mph....86.54
1/4....12.992
mph....108.96

All of these runs were with street tires and a SLP lid ONLY. Track was hooking good that day. I had a 12.8xx run in the bag and missed a gear I also found that the stock clutch was the culpirit keeping my 60fts from falling any lower. It slipped just enough to keep me outta the 1.9s With the new mods, good weather and about the same 60s I am hoping for 12.6s-12.7s @ 111-112

the way i do it is with on street tires just pass the waterbox and go into a burnout, your not heating up your tires just getting all the dirt, sand, and gravel out of your tire threads. and go up and stage. i hold in my brake and go up in RPM's just before i break the tires loose then as soon as the yellow light before the first green light goes off i punch it. some trees are differant then others in what ligh to jump at but thats how i do it on the 1/8th

i know this may sound kind of retarded, i think it is, but do you steadily but not slowly stomp on the gas or do you just gun it hoping you hook it. about what rpm do you hold it at? A4

i agree with that, however, that doesn't explain the mid 80 mph trap speeds. the et is explained by the 60 foot time. i can see picking up a little bit of speed by getting a better launch but not 4-5 mph. he apparently has wheelspin problems, which would be explained by having the stronger engine. i have no wheelspin problems in 2nd gear, which to me means my engine isn't as strong. it's not my driving, i have no problems shifting fast and keeping momentum, the car just doesn't spin into 2nd gear. (my driving is to blame for my horrendous 1/8 et's though!)

its all about what tires your running and how good the track is preped, meaning how good the track grips. my times were with me stalling it up and putting it to the floor and hooking up really well which very rarly happens. i have headers and catback pushing 25 more HP and 30 more TQ and i still cant get as good of 60' and 1/8 mile times as i was stock, go figure lol. but ya you dont want to spin so the 1st time you go down the track at full thottle and you spin all the way though 1st feather the gas though 1st just enough to not have wheel spin.

ok ...... lets start with...

my mods are: pacesetter LT's, true 3" dual exhaust with H pipe and dynomax race bullets before the rear axle, k&n, lid and free cold air.

+

i went 81.94 mph, then 81.24, 80.68 and finally 81.20.

i have horrible 60' times around 2.2
if you are on stock tires, then you have one or both of 2 problems....

1. you are babying the car out of the hole. a bone stock ls1 on street tires can turn the stock tires into pillers of smoke even on a well prepped track, if you were seeing almost no spin at all then you are launching too low.and probably bogging out of the hole...
2. something is wronge with your car, and it is a dog...

i would recomend getting dynoed with wideband and eliminating #2.

#1, you can address with time and practice....

i'm sure i can launch harder, i just need to find that perfect rpm. my second run did light up the tires pretty badly in first gear...
i am on 275 street tires so i agree, it should spin much more than it seems to.
i hope nothing is wrong with the car it has only 43k on it and seems to have been maintained well.
i do plan on hitting the dyno however.

Well I was launching at 4k, not dumping it, but a controlled clutch dump. What I do is bring it to 4k, and when the last yellow illuminates I "start" to let the clutch out. When I feel it start to move the car I go ahead and let it out fast, but not dump it. As soon as the clutch is all the way engaged I floor it. The car didn't spin at all, it does bog just a bit, but not too bad. I tried raising the launch rpm to 4.5k once and smoked em up. If I had the Nittos on I could have used a more aggressive technique off the line, but I didn't and I am trying to hang on to this 10 bolt as long as possible. Car does bark 2nd hard each time. Oh yeah, I DO powershift, so that is worth a bit of ET and MPH. Good luck fellas
