Default should you buy a trans am if......

Ok I have the perfect TA WS6 picked out from a member here on ls1tech. 2000 WS6 m6 with cam/ tune ls6 intake and a bunch of other misc bolt ons... new nittos in the rear and BFG KWD's in the front... for 13000! I sign papers on it next weekend.
The thing is is my gf has been bitching nonstop ever since I told her about it. I mean saying stuff like "TA's look like a big bird's beak sticking out" and they are for "immature punks". "They do worse on gas than a truck". Tons of stuff! She drive a brand new civic (which in my town you see more civics with rice mufflers driven by punks than TA's period not mentioning WS6's)
I am 24 have 2 more years of mechanical engineering school left, at least, and buying this car DOES NOT put me in a financial bind at all mind you.
I will be getting rid of my GTP with 97,000 on it for the TA so the question is;

I know opinions may be biased on the site towards this but everything aside

(1) Am I being irrational? I have wanted a TA ever since I restored a 78 with my dad when I was in HS.
(2) Is the TA with a TR 224 cam going to kill me on gas vs the GTP which does around 220-22 in town and 26 or so on HWY

Buy the T/A and get a new GF. On the highway , gas mileage is outstanding and VASTLY better than a truck. She's just worried because T/As are babe magnets.

Well I tried to make her understand that it is a guy thing and she woudn't understand. I mean just to hear a car have a nice lope to it makes my hair stand up on end (i guess i must be alone on that one), same as your favorite team kicking the **** out of a rival opponent in their stadium but she doesn't understand that either

I tried the "I only live once" bs and that didn't work because she throws the irrational decision **** in my face.

Next thing I may do is throw her in the gutter and then find another

Get the car, I bet she will change her mind about it after you have it. If not, you need a new GF. If it's something you have wanted since HS, why would you give it up just to please her?

As far as mpg with the cam, I can't comment on the TR224 since I don't have that cam, but I have an F13 (a little bigger) and saw no drastic changes in mpg after the install. I get ~17 mpg city and ~25 highway.

Take your ***** out of the jar she has them in and do what you want. It's your car, not hers.

One last thing here: My GF (who I live with) made that "irrational" decision of wanting a T/A so I "irrationaly" bought one for her. She likes it much better than the "rational" '98 Nissan Sentra she had. You only live once and ya can't take it with ya......

Why even listen to her. When i got my z-28 i didnt hear a peep out of her. And she also drives a relatively new civic. Just buy the car. I cant believe you would listen to her about something like this. Not like its a ferrari with 11 mpg on the highway and ***** being thrown at your feet, (well that'll probably happen either way).

I do second the "babe magnet" thought as well, though.

One of the 5 "fights" my wife and I have had in the 8 years we've been together was over my decision to buy the T/A. She didn't think it was a good "family" car. Since I bought it, I can't get her out of it. Buy it, drive it, **** it if you have to, she'll adjust.

Might sound cold, but this might be the best for both of you, if she can't live with your hobby and you are serious about having this hobby.

For those of us guys that are absolutely addicted to this hobby (like me), we require a certain type of woman for any sort of a relationship to work long term. That type of woman is one of the following; either she also enjoys or is involved in the hobby, and/or she is totally understanding and supportive of your involvement in it. When you find a woman like that, do what I did and marry her. Till then, the others are just space filler.

If you let her have her way and don't get the T/A, what's the next thing she's going to have a problem with? If you let her win this it's going to be harder next time to get what you want, if it's not a financial burden (and you said it wasn't) tell her to deal with it. If she walks out, then you have the babe magnet car to help get another
BTW call me a 41 yo immature punk (with a job, wife, and kid )

remember that TA's are for rednecks only too!!! j/k

If you like the car go for it... as for the gas mileage item... an M6 LS1 will probably get even better gas mileage than your GTP ... even with the cam (that's a pretty standard/small cam by todays standards heh)

LS1s get awesome fuel economy especially w/the M6

As an example... if you go to fueleconomy.gov ... 2000 V6 M5 Firebird gets 19/30 whereas the V8 M6 gets 18/27 ... kinda kills the argument that V6's are that much better on fuel economy heh

i just did some highway driving, and i have a little less than half a tank left, and ive been 250 miles so far, and some was stop and go when i got stuck in traffic. and im cammed, headers, true duals, w/ a tune.... so gas mileage shouldnt be an issue...
