SS has a 2.75" catback exhaust, Z28 has a 2.5". Z28 has rectangular exhaust tips, SS has round ones
SS has a ram-air hood (which doesn't really do a good job of bringing in outside air), and a different spoiler in the rear than a Z28
SS has 17x9 inch rims with 275/40ZR17 tires, Z28 has 16x8 inch rims with 245/50ZR16s
SS is rated at 325 HP, Z28 is rated at 310 (both ratings are underrated, they're closer 350 HP each- the SS DOES NOT make 15 HP more like they advertise)
SS could be ordered with optional equipment including a Bilstein suspension, a "345 HP" package which included a 3" low-restriction catback exhaust and a low-restriction air intake lid, SS logo floormats, and other stuff
SS may have had slightly larger sway bars (I'm not quite sure)
Both cars with a manual transmission had 3.42 gears. Automatic trans Z28 had 2.73, automatic SS had 3.23.
Bottom line- if you like the looks of the SS, then get an SS. They both put out the same power. If you just care about actual horsepower, then get a Z28 and save yourself a little bit of money.

All LS1F-bodies have the same exhaust and the same muffler, the only difference is the tips. TA get the Alluminum oval tips, Z28 gets the boxed black alluminum tips, SS and WS6 gets the 2.5 stainless rolled edge tips. All of them use the same crappy crosflow GM muffler with the same part numbers. The only cars that have a totally different exhaust are the ones with the ultra rare SLP exhaust option in which these cars are rated at 327Fly wheel hp.

The Z28, Formula, and T/A have the same muffler. The SS and WS6 get a "better flowing" (I think just a louder) muffler. The optional mufflers on the SS and Firehawk are supposed to be the dual/dual mufflers, but from what I understand, the dual/dual catback you buy from slponline has even a different muffler. So who knows - but, FWIW, the optional SS/Firehawk exhaust is "rated" at 335hp, not 327.

The muffler on my Z28 and the muffler on my brother inlaws SS had the same part numbers stamped in them so this is where I am basing my information on. Both cars were sitting side by side after he brought it home from the showroom and we started looking to see if there were any differences. The part numbers on my factory Z28 exhaust and the number on his SS were the same.

The ss and ws6 did get a freer flowing exhaust put a z28 ta beside a ss or ws6 and just rev it and you will see they are louder and slightly deeper...the slp optioned cars are harder to find and sound much better and as mentioned were rated at 335

I bought an SS just based on the looks, like everyone said the power is basically the same. If you like the looks and wanna spend a little extra $$$ go with that. Otherwiese like said, an ls1 is an ls1
