Default Fuel Rail Covers, Why?

Corvette-style fuel rail covers look pretty cool, but I would think they hold heat in. Wouldn't you want heat to radiate off the engine?

I'm sure there is a reason other than aesthetics (sp?), but I don't know what it is. Anyone?

No other reason than making it look good. I don't think the holding heat in works too well. I mean the Hood is only a few inches above that. Heat doesn't go through the hood. The cooling takes place internally via coolant.

The FRC's will hold in some heat, but they do look good.

Cool, but why does GM say they made them? Just because they look cool? I'm down if so, just wondering.

Could it also be to supress some of the noise from injectors and such?

Not to hijack this thread but has anyone ever filled in the corvette letters with some kind of filler and then repainted them? I like the covers but i don't like putting something that says corvette on my car when its not a corvette. Or is there aftermarket ones that don't say anything?

Its only to give the Vette an upscale look that differs from the f body twins. Thats all.

S&P Makes some metal aftermarket FRC's that have no logo and you can paint whatever color you want.

I think most custom FRCs start out as corvette ones that are filled and repainted and such

How many would be interested in a carbon fiber type fuel cover with the name of their car on the cover and cleared over?

I have a LS1 Rx7 and I was thinking about getting a carbon fiber fuel cover with the name LS1 Rx7 in red on the cover and cleared over it.

I might be interested depending on price, I know they are like 600 buckks on pfyc.com way too much for something that doesnt make it go faster IMO

You can buy custom aftermarket frc's from afterthoughtsauto.com They are a sponser here check them out, they start at $195, they already have the holes cut for the f-body fuel lins and they can be painted to match your car for only $35 more....

Just curious, does the older 97-98 Corvette fuel covers a direct bolt on to the F-bodies? I saw that on afterthoughtsautos.com that theirs look like the 97-98 Corvette fuel covers that already have the dual fuel lines cut.

Just curious if anyone can confirm that. Also, I bet I can get some fuel cover made of Carbon fiber for around $350 a set and maybe additional letter for each individual car for around $50 plus. I believe this guy will even clear the fuel covers over the letter, so it looks like it flows better and will last longer. I really want to get me a set that says LS1 Rx7, would be awesome.

If you are going to start selling stuff like that you should clear it with nineball (Tony) and/or Pro Stock John.

What rock have you been hiding under?!?!

Go to the Appearance forum, or use the 'Search' function, you'll find a ton of information available here on this site.

And the #1 reason people use them is simply for 'appearance', ...
But if they were a real problem & 'held in' heat, ..., would GM really continue to use them?!?

And Carbon Fiber units are available from the after market already also.

Not to seem like a GM basher but they would probably still use them.
