Can anyone here pull RPO codes?
I recently got my friend into F-Bodies. He finally found one in his price range - a '98 Black M6 WS6 (or so we think), went up to look at it and drive it yesterday, and fell in love with it.
He plans to go back up tommorrow to buy, but I have one concern with the car - the authenticity of the WS6 package. It has the hood, wheels, rear emblem, and RPO code on the door (which can be faked), but it has orange DeCarbon shocks (albeit with Eibach springs) and the "ram-air" decals on the hood are missing. Although I'm pretty sure the car's been repainted which might account for that.
EDIT: Exhaust has been replaced with Magnaflow, so no way to tell from that. Also didn't know about the PS cooler at the time, so I didn't look for one.
Anyway, the WS6 status makes or breaks how great of a "deal" the price is, so if anyone here can run a VISS or whatever it's called to pull up RPO codes and confirm it's a WS6, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

WS6 RPO on SPID sticker (on door) = Real WS6.
No need to run the VIN, just check the VIN on the SPID sticker to make sure it matches the car's VIN on the dash.
Orange DeCarbon shocks are correct for a WS6.
One other thing to check that people never remember to do when trying to fake a WS6 package, look at the jounce spacers for the rear wheels. The 17" wheel cars get a different spacer, but that only helps if you know what the 16" spacer is supposed to look like.....so if you don't, check out another F-body with stock 16" wheels and compare.

It is on a RV DEALER lot as a recent trade in towards an RV. Other than a CarFax, there's nothing more that dealer can provide me as they aren't a GM dealer.

Thanks RPM WS6!
My '00 WS6 had orange DeCarbons. And I know 100% for sure it came off the assembly line that way, I bought the car new with 3 miles on it.

Is that really a bad thing, though? I always just thought of it as being fresher, although it could be a sign the car was ragged on.
My tranny was replaced at 18k under the previous owner and I always thought of it as a good thing.
Thanks again!

It's good to hear a car can be authenticated by any GM Tech with access to the GM site. I bought my WS6 one month ago and it doesn't have the SPID sticker. The seller seemed surprised it wasn't there and got nervous when I told him it was the only way to verify it's a real WS6. I asked if he had the original window sticker and he said "no". Luckily his friend found it folded up in the owner's manual. The VIN matched so I bought the car. Can someone look it up for me just to be sure? I would really appreciate it. Here it is: 2G2FV22G3X2216343
I'm pretty confident it's the real deal, but there is a shred of doubt. Thanks in advance!

Email Pontiac customer service at cac@pontiac.com
Give your year, make, model and VIN. plus any direct questions about your cars options or such ( non asc or slp items) build sheet type of information and you will get a wealth of info back in a day or two.
I did that with my WS6 before I bought it.
