when i got 'er i was gettin 18.5 mpg, which rose slightly. the drive has not changed, 70% is the commute down backroads, 30% mixed city. Since the oil change to 10w-30 mobil 1 from whatever the dealer used, and possibly better weather, i'm getting 21.8 consistently.

Put serious modifications on it, drive it around town, and that's what happens.

yea but I have a six speed I should be getting way better than that. That was using a 10% Ethonal mix, and I drive mario andrette... I tried straight citgo 93oct, and its been raining a LOT so I have been driving VERY reasonable, and I have 50 miles on the tank now and the needle is 1/8th down from F, usually I get about 60miles on teh first 1/4 of the gauge, so Im doing better... lol I also ran some fuel injector cleaner through it... IDK why I have such shitty mileage on a basicly stock car..

what's the best oil to use in order to get the best gas mileage? synthetic? 10w-30? 5w-30?
my first fullup got me 21mpg. i'm happy with that but if i can get it better...it's got the oil from the dealership. looks new but it's probably real oil, not synthetic. what should i use? mobile 1? castrol syntax? who has the BEST RESULTS?
mind you i just bought the car and i have no clue what they've been running, normal or synthetic. i dunno how bad it would be to go synthetic if normal has always been run in it? it has 25k miles.

I do some long trips in mine...M6--about 25 mpg all told...average....no cam or other engine mods....just bolt-ons.......I do not use very light oil..I use 10-w30 all the time......also have let my car warm up 5-10 minutes ALL its life....b4 I drive away....a warm lubricated engine is happy... OH YEAH..sometimes 91 octane...which is probably 94-96 octane down there.... [everytime I drive stateside my car is glad to be home where the gas is gas..]

It's actually thicker than other 0-30's. This topic has been beat to death. It's great oil.

i dunno guys...0w-30...i'm reading about it on mobile's website. says it exceeds fuel economy standards. doesn't that offer REALLY BAD protection to vital engine parts though? i mean, i thought even 5w-30 was a little watery and 10w-30 is optimal for engine protection. i think 0w-30 would be like putting water in your crankcase? i mean, viscosity-wise.

Mobil 1 != German Castrol
I believe the GC 0W-30 is actually thicker than M1's 5W-30 from what I remember.

I get great mileage on the highway, about 200 miles on half a tank
on the city however, thats a different story (I got a heavy foot ) usually about 15-18 mpg on average
