about to buy a 1998 trans am WS6
Hi everyone. i am about to purchase a 1998 Trans Am WS6 (manual). it has 53,000 miles on it. not an ounce of rust. felt solid in the test drive. it has minor scratches on all 4 rims and a few scratches on the fron fascia from the highway. Its bone stock other than the skip shift eliminator. any recommendations on what else i should check before making the final deal? its listed at 14,500 obo. here is a picture

its gorgeous, and a good price.. if you test drove it and all checked out, the only thing i would say is make sure no fluids are leaking.. but with such low miles i doubt that would be a problem.

I have never seen that color before. Where are you located? 14-15g for a 98 with 54k miles, that sounds pricey to me. What are some of the prices that other ws6's are going for in your area?

That is Sport Gold Metallic. I had no idea that color was ever used on a WS6 though. Learn something new every day.
Price seems good to me. That's a rare car (color).

Check the FAQ stickies at the top of this forum, they are great for new LS1 owners. They will answer a lot of the general questions you might have while getting to know your new car.

offer him $11.500 believe it or not that car doesnt worth more than that.. beatiful looking car but the important thing is inside.. jjust because it is ws6 he adds 3-4k more on the price.. you can find a clean 25-35k miles 2000 trans am with that price.. l am about to deal with a guy for $12.500 for a 99 trans am with chrome wheels and manula 6 speed and 39k miles on. he asked 15k and l pulled him down to 13k now but l still offer him 12.5k!
keep looking, you will find a lot better deals and also do not always pay the listed price.. just negotiate!!

86MonteSS, I just noticed you're in the chicagoland area.....what part? I'm in the near-north 'burbs. Check out the midwest section of this site for local gatherings and such.

if i could do it again, i wouldn't have gotten a 98, Almost all the differences the 99+ fbodies have, are for the better. Tuning and tuning software is sometimes harder to find since the 98's had the different PCM. Also i had Speedtek tell me all the 98's they've tuned dyno'd less power than expected, and less then 99+'s with the same mods, so they believe it's a problem with the PCM. Dont really know if they're right, but that's what they believe.

they do dyno lower on average but it's what, 10hp? you're not really gonna notice it and the extra tenth on your ET isn't really that big of a deal if it's the car you really want.
personally, i think that's a lot of money to spend on a car that's 8 1/2 years old, but if you can honestly step back and tell yourself "i could drive this car happily for the next X years" and you have the cash, by all means, buy it. you gotta drive it, not us. make this decision for YOU, not for anyone else.
