I used to drive a GTP, and it was quick and torquey and all.. but really.. the l67, l32 is no comparison to an LS1. The l36, and l23 (I think the new one is 23) are not even close to the l67/32 so I think you get the point. For those motors- theyre very finicky. Hard to make them go fast and be reliable at the same time unless you turbo them- and the only good motors to turbo are the n/a ones- they have much higher compression on a stock block. If you want to build a motor and slap a turbo on, go right ahead, but a stock ls1 with a procharger or an sts rear mount turbo would blow you away for the money.

I didn't notice that you had the GTP as it is better than the GT, but in reality it is still not worth the hassle to make fast compared to a ls1.
"Don't bother with the gp you have as it's only a 3.8 with no s/c. If you put a turbo on it it might be different, but really you need a ls1. Your 3.8 makes only 200hp so it will be regularly beat by ricers or trucks even with mods.
I don't mean to sound negative, but I have spent too much time/money with 15 second cars (probe gt 2.5, shelby charger 2.2 turbo, nissan maxima 3.5) trying to turn them into something that they were not."

yeah to drop 2-5k worth of mods into a 3.8 grand prix would basically be worthless if you were thinking of going with a ls1.
think about the power output with those same mods in the 5.7... yeahhhhhh.. ls1 is the way to go.

The only reason I picked the GP over the TA is because it was something different, but i regret it sometimes. I mean with the same money I have spent on the GP I could have a much faster Fbody. But overall I like my car alot. One of the biggest problems is getting races, after I pimped the wheels and put my gauges in, I finally started getting some. I would prolly go with a TA with only 2-5 grand. You will have to spend about 8-10 grand on that GP to get it going as fast as 2 grand on an Fbody!

Get both. You already have the GP. Since you're talking about dumping $5K into mods, just use that $5K towards buying an LS1. I love being able to go out and romp on my SS and then when I want a smoother and more refined ride, I've got the GTP.

GP GT to a LS1 anything is no where in the same ballpark... if it were a GTP it would be a little different. I have both, the GTP is a nice ride for a long trip, can fit 5 people in the car comfortably and with less than $1000 you will be in the mid 13's range. Only thing that is the big flaw with the Grand Prix is the transmission, all they did was take a already weak transmission, bolt more power to it and attempt to make it stronger... but it still didn't work. The GTP being FWD if you are into racing doesn't help it either. As for turboing a GP, I have seen beter results from turbing a GTP over the GT because the engine is built more for the boost. With a stock bolt on Cartuning turbo kit people run high 12's low 13's all day with no problems, throw on a I/C and they are seeing low 12's with turned up boost, and go one step further and put on 1.9 rockers and you will see some high 11's, providing the Transmission is going to be able to handle it... For all that I mentioned above to hit low 12's high 11's is going to cost roughly 5k or so, if tranny goes out on you, look at spending close to 7k, basically though you get a FWD Grand National!
LS1 you will see more bang for your buck, but imo it is meant to be a joy car that you can drag race or do some mild cruising in. Honestly if I go anywhere with my TA I get paranoid about door dings or someone keying it (already happened one week after having it...) because I do my best to keep it clean and nice, my GTP I use to be that way but lost that luster after I got the TA!
IMO it all depends on your situation in life and where you plan to be in the future, if you have a wife and kids get a GP can't cram them all in the back of a TA.
