when my vin doesnt come up "pontiac firehawk" i dont care...mine comes up "1993 PONTIAC FIREBIRD FORM/TRANS AM/GT" but i dont care. remember, its all in the rpo codes. r6v is the code for 93 hawks and i just happen to have that code, not to mention slp's alteration sticker. forget what it comes up as on carfax..just look at the rpo codes....and about it havin a "firebird" manual. well mine does. mine is a formula firehawk. but really a formula is a v8 firebird. and then i have the firehawk option on the formula...your ta is really a firebird that has been altered to a formula, that has been altered into a t/a (spoiler, body kit, hood ect)....

Ok I don't understand why no one has answered your question properly yet but an easy and CORRECT way to tell if it was a Trans Am from the factory is to look at your driverside door. The RPO code WS4 makes it an official Trans Am

there was a pro driver who drove both the 98 t/a and 98 formula. he put it on record that the 98 t/a was quicker by .2 secs 0 to 60 wise. thats 5.1 secs for the t/a and 5.3 secs for the formula

ahhhh! a formula is just a V6 body with an LS1 swap (and suspension and stuff). that means WHATEVER is available on V6's are also available on formulas. i believe the only option on the formula that wasn't offered was the SLP Y2Y package...but they weren't available on V6's either i have a formula. it's the same car as a TA minus the wing and body kit. this makes my car in fact theoretically faster than an equally equipped TA since it's lighter. there is nothing wrong with having a formula and there are no disadvantages performance-wise. i love the sleeper look...well i did, but the cutout and big corsa premium tips give me away now i love the noise more than the sleeper look i guess.
yes, formulas came with t-tops. so did the V6's. i owned a 1995 V6 f-body with t-tops and my 2001 formula has t-tops also. i'd be very upset if they didn't come with t-tops because i'd have 2 factory flukes that would be worth millions otherwise. i traded my million dollar V6 for $3,900?
i'm not trying to be a jerk here, honestly, i know i sound like it, but what's up with all the formula bashing? they're a rare car compared to TA's and WS6's and can be the biggest sleeper ever made. they're awesome, i wouldn't trade my car for any other. i love everything about it minus the common f-body rattles and creaks.

i had the same feeling when i carfaxed my 93 t/a thought someone changed the vin# which btw was a hardtop with cloth int.
i have the factory service manual in front of me and thats how it says to remove and install the roof panel in a little more words. look at your car when the dew is setting if its a HT and you will see the outline of the ttops in it. they were all made the same just a different piece of SMC were used between the two. you would also have to buy the headliner, glass and molding ect. for the new roof.
