is it a good idea to do the tb bypass i am not exactly sure what it does ecpt put water through it to cool it ( well thats what i was told anyways )

It runs hot coolant through it, NOT cool. It's put on because from the factory cars are designed to be used year round, including freezing and below temps. They add the TB line to warm the ingoing air through the intake to help with warmups and I suppose keep the TB from sticking. If you don't drive it daily, especially not in cold weather, it won't hurt at all. You really won't be picking up much power either. Maybe 1 rwhp if that. Do it if you want, if you don't, you won't lose any races because of it.

I would leave it alone. Not much to gain. By the way there are some sticky's for questions like this that explain all the free mods.

I did the bypass only to make it easier to change the TB. I didn't notice any difference.

I've heard that warmer air gets you better economy, and the only time that it actually could make a difference in your intake air temp is at idle. At any other RPM the air is traveling through at such a velocity that any heat gain is negligable. Mine is not bypassed and I dynoed 425 at the wheels. I'd leave it be. GM probably had good reason to do it.

I agree, it's most likely there to also help startup emissions(like the A.I.R. pump) by quickly bringing the engine up to normal operating temperature.
