Yeah, RP 5-30 is **** thin. I think your car will thank you in the long run. Less ticking goin' on under the valve covers too I bet, huh?

I ran GC 0w30 for a while, I'm getting the heads/cam/intake done right now at 97k. Ported and shimmed oil pump is going on as well. Before if I sat in a long traffic jam (1 hr +) and it was warm, my idle would drop down to almost 20psi, but cruise is 40-45 @ 2000, and it came back up after a little driving. Climbs just fine with RPM's.

The shop (a sponsor) recommended RP 5w40 or 10w40, don't remember the first number but the second was definately a 40, as that's what he runs in his personal car (runs 9.40, stock dispalcment, drags the bumper and wheels up through the 60ft light). So, we'll see what changes.

Just don't, for the love of your car, run 5w30 M1.. it's a 20 weight oil, and oil analysis has shown significant breakdown in an LS1 by 3000 miles, where GC is doing fine up to 9000 miles. If you like Mobil oils, get the 10w40 for trucks and SuV's, that stuff is 10 times better for the Ls1 than the 5w30.

I wouldn't be too worried bout oil pressure only being 20 lbs. at a hot idle, especially on hot days. My car, after i've been sitting in traffic for a while gets down to 20 lbs. In the morning its about 45 lbs at idle. When i first bought my car, a year and a half ago, I was coming out of houston and got stuck in traffic (hurricane scare) for 17 hrs. and it idled for 17 hrs. straight and the pressure was at 20 lbs., and ive been daily driving it every day since ive bought it, and i hasnt posed any problems.

After a fresh oil change with filter my hot idle is about 30 and cold idle about 50. Right around 4000 miles after the oil change, my pressure drops to 20 psi hot and 40 psi cold. It's been like this ever since I bought my car 2 years ago with 97k on the clock. I've got 108k on her now and everything is still the same after about 70 1/4 mile passes and some pretty spirited driving.

Not sure if you are asking what the deal is with your oil pressure, or if you are just making a statement. If you are wondering what you should do, I would reccomend changing your oil before it hits 4,000 miles (which you should do anyway IMO) and that will keep your pressure up.

Not to hijack the thread but how much is the oil pressure sending unit?

My pressure is pretty low at idle but climbs rapidly during acceleration. Ive got about 18psi idling at 850rpm's. Its a ported LS6 oil pump. I know you guys are gonna tell me thats not good. I just thought I would share.

I was just making a statement for reference...in case anyone else might be experiencing the same thing. I'd feel a little more comfy seeing higher oil pressure but seeing no change in my oil pressure behavior pattern makes me comfy enough. If I spin a bearing it's just a good excuse with the wife to get a better motor setup.

Mobil Purple.

Right now I am using M1 5w-30. Going back to GC 0w-30 next time, less consumption and less LSx "noise". Just my opinion.
