LS1 GTOs arent slouches. My buddy has a 04 gto auto with just torque control gone and it keeps up with my 00 z28. Mines a m6 with some bolt ons. Also my car traps 107mph so his gto's no slouch.

Well I was mostly speaking of the v8's, But a leaky intake gasket isnt that bad.

Maybe it's already been said, but I thought that most people were buying LS1 GTO's (04?) because the after-market availability was already there for parts.

This was months ago, though, so maybe things have changed.

416 isn't a heavily modded ls1, thats not at all close to a heavily modded one. I don't consider mine to be heavily mooded and I could put my stock heads back on and make more than that. lt1s are just as reliable, ls1s seem to be more efficient to myself owning both but that my opinion. and I have yet to see as many lt1s running 7s and 8s as there are ls1s,

to the OP, youre friends friend is an *******. i love people who make statements that they cant back up with reasoning. the ls2 has a bigger bore so a few extra cubes. it is basically the same design otherwise. modifying it will produce larger gains in comparison to the ls1 because of the bigger displacement and ls2s are killer from the roll. i dont like that the gto's have the independent rear because they are harder to launch and have alittle wheel hop but the ls2 is the way to go. i love my ls1 z. i also like the gto. it makes no sense to me for your friend to get an ls1 gto, because they are heavier than an f body and have the same power. ls1 gtos pose 0 threat stock for stock against an ls1 f body. furthermore, the difference in price between the 04 and 05 goats is very little now and there is no reason not to get the 6.0 liter. an f body vs an ls2 gto is typically a drivers race because of the goats weight but the more you modify the gto the less of an issue the weight becomes. and ask yourself, if ls2s are junk, then why do a good number of f body owners trade their ls1s in favor of a 402, which is a stroked ls2.... because they are stout!!!

My impression is that the LS2 has some other updates over the LS1, like larger TB, LS6-style heads, different pistons, higher CR, etc. I don't see that mods to an LS2 are going to yield extraordinary gains over an LS1 though. If you add a 90MM TB and LS6 heads to a stock 350-360 HP LS1, it's going to be mighty close to the LS2. Beyond this, additional mods to either engine would probably produce similar results, with maybe a slight edge to the LS2 due to the higher CR and additional cubes.

Two things I got out of that:

First is that your friend bought a car without actually driving it. Unless it was a Ferrari, you're friend is about as smart as a broken chair.

Secondly, you said he could drive. Anyone with a GTO (LS1 OR LS2) who gets beat by a lightly modded 4.6L 2v Mustang CANNOT drive. You need to raise the bar on what you think is good driving and what isn't.

PS - I'm not bashing Stangs, I have one.

LS2=just a bigger, better LS1 with a 90mm drive-by-wire TB, better cam, and a PIG-RICH TUNE. If you get rid of the horrible tune, you can get about 425 flywheel horsepower. Also, removing Torque Management (TM) does wonders. The only real problems with LS2 GTOs is heatsoak (also common in C6 vettes--can be solved by buying a $90 heatsoak eliminator) and the bad tune (solved with a quick tune.)

All in all, LS2 is just a bigger version of the LS1. It's just as reliable, amazing, and touched by the hand of God as the LS1, and the phrase "There's no replacement for displacement" still stands.

LOL

Not to change subjects,but..lol

I have a friend of mine who has a full bolt-on 00 GT..every bolt on and 4.11's besides headers.

Every time I talk to the guy he tells me how he has smoked this and that....LS1's,LS2 GTO's,stroked Fox Bodies,Bolt-On LS1's,etc etc....

Its like his car is either Gods 2v Stang or all the people he races can't drive there way outta a wet paper bag

Uh? Correct me if I'm wrong but ls2 intake=ls6 intake, except it accepts a 90mm tb.

guys the ls1 is a nice engine but i have driven a few of my fellow car club members rides including a ws6 firebird and yeah they're fast but a ls2 gto is like driving a SS with a tune or exhuast. they are a little bit faster and yes u can lose against a f-body ls1 if u slip through the gears with traction loss. but stock for stock ls2 gtos ARE faster just need a little diet thats all!!!!

no. the lS2 intake is more like an LS1 intake with a big TB. the LS6 intake has more volume and a smaller TB.
