Default What had the stock LS1 block been know to hold?

I am thinking about taking my stock 2000 t/a, and make it into a twin turbo monster, but i would like to know whats the LS1 block good for, or what you are running it at. Because what i am hearing is that some people have luck, and others dont.

Roofer Dave was over 1000hp on a stock block and crank. I believe that's pretty close to the limit for both. I would change to an Iron block around 1000 flywheel hp for safety.

My current 383 is well into the 600rwhp range on spray. My factory bottom-end lived with 576rwhp for 3 years before pushing a head gasket. It looked perfect on tear-down...

ok, here is the next question, should i change to a an LQ9 iron block, 4.0" Stroke 4.0" bore to make a 402ci. Would i be better off with that engine? This engine that i am looking into is for a twin turbo set up...

Crankshaft: Callies COMPSTAR 4340 material forgings 4.0"
Rods: Manley? COMPSTAR?
Pistons: Diamond? MAHLE? Lunati? JE? Manley? 4.0"

I know i need low compression, so i still am deciding in a set up, throw some ideas out there?

What you need to do is figure out what HP you want, and what turbos will be needed to get you there at what psi, then balance the backpressure. You'd probably get better responses in the Forced Incduction section. Me, I'd love to go with a 402.. lots of off idle torque even with low compression and they can spool a big turbo faster. I'd like to go with a 402 and a T88 Of course, then you're looking at up to 1000hp with good boost, and the rest of the car has to be handle it. Forced Inductin is EXPENSIVE! Take what you think it will cost, double it, then you'll probably be getting close to what it will really cost.

You can pick up a fully built shortblock from one of the sponsors. Id say go with an ls2 based 402 stroker and twins.

Figure out what you can and want to spend first.

IDK what your other expiriences are, but I am pretty sure a basic old iron 408 with a healthy shot would be enough to scare the crap out of me for years. And thats a nice cheap build that just plain works.

You found that magazine fast, lol

These engines really are well made, with a little bit of work they can handle some serious power and do it fairly reliably

As long as its a safe tune it will be ok. What really matters is that it is put together well using quality parts
