the hood really doesnt matter much...a ram air hood isnt gonna add horespower and ur FIPK will add very few (like) 3rwhp no matter which hood u have. So dont worry about spending mony oon another hood unless its for appearence.

Man, the hood is just a decoration; it does not add power. It does look mean as hell. If i had a T/A, it would have to have a WS6 or Firehawk hood no question. All LS1 engines stock have the same horse power (though they all got a bump in '01) whether they came in a WS6, SS, Z28, or a 'Vette. A stock '99 WS6, aT/A, Z28, and SS will all have the same RWHP. Or, if they differ slightly, it's not because of an option.
Keep the FIPK, keep the new hood. Best of both worlds.

my car is not in she shop cuz i wanted to
someone did a hit and run and well there you have it my car is in the shop
when i bought the car it had the K&N air filter/set up
and the Ram air hood...the hood had some foam or type of sealer that would close tight into the air filter.
so when the shop ordered the new hood they just got the WS6 hood from GM...he man at the shop states that that hood wont work.
so he gave me 2 options
1) buy an after market hood that would work with the intake set up
2) keep the hood they got from GM and then order the stock air box that comes with the 98 trans am
so what do you guys think i should do????
keep the hood that the shop already has and have them order a stock air box or have them order a hood that would work with the K&N????

Any hood will work with the K&N.. if you look @ the system it goes a little front of the radiator, supposedly catching air from underneath. That piece is also connected to the underside of your airbox- thus a direct flow from the front of the car to your lid. The ram air hood will go on the car and look fine, it won't be functional (but did it really increase hp anyways???) When he said the hood won't work, i think the man at the shop means it wont have the ram air affect since your getting air from elsewhere. It will still go on the car w/ the slp lid and everything though. If he tries to tell you otherwise take your car and get the hell out. Take a look at the kit and you'll see what i mean. It's not hard to install at all.

Okay. That's not the FIPK. Hmm. Seen it a 100 times but I don't know. It looks like the LT1's air cleaner. I don't know, man. Someone might chime in telling you what kind it is. But, yeah, it does look like it would be restrictive with the hood closed.
It also looks like the cleaner that comes with the Suncoast Creations LT1-year SS hood on an LS1-year car. I know you have a Firebird, but maybe it comes with other Suncoast hoods. I'd give you a link but I'm too lazy to see if they're sponsors. Google.
