Guys, I think I need to chip my car
Seriously, you have no idea how many people have told me I need to buy and install a chip into my SS today. When someone tells you this, co-worker, customer, friend thats ignorant to anything with more than 4 cylinders, what is your response?
And on a side note, is there even such a thing for the LS1?

I'll tell you something right now..... NEVER take any LS1 advice from ANYONE that tells you to buy a "chip" for your '00 SS. The PCM in these cars needs to be tuned either on a dyno with software (HP Tuners, LS1 Edit) and a laptop or with a handheld tuner. You do not replace any chip in these computers.
At your mod level, you'd pick up a bit from custom tuning (with the headers).

Oh trust me I'm no newbie to knowledge of the car, but I'm no Patrick G. either. The main goal of this thread is to make people aware that a "chip" isn't anything even worth searching on, and a proper dyno tune is.
I'm not going to tune mine until I toss an LS6 manifold on and I'm ready to spray. Its running pretty well with the headers w/o the tune. Don't even have the noxious gas smell from the lack of cats.

I'm confused. You first stated:
Then you state:
It sounded more to me like you were asking if you could buy a "chip" for your LS1?
Anyone that wants to know what their tuning options are for an LS1 needs to look no further than our PCM & Tuning section of the site.

Playing a little devil's advocate. I know what not to do with my vehicle, I do apologize if I came off as not knowing anything. My attempt at sarcasm of "chipping" my SS totally failed.
I never really was that great at writing stories in English class, I guess that proved it. I do appreciate you shutting down the all mighty "chip" and its super powers though.
But what would you say to someone if they suggested adding that all mighty "chip"? I kind of feel bad telling my friend that he's a total moron and to go back to his non tuned turbo civic.

I have gotten the "does it have a chip?" thing a lot lately. I give them a blank stare for a few seconds and then inform them that it is custom tuned and that you don't "chip" these cars.
I even had one guy tell me that a "chip" would gain me 50HP!

lol, the tire shop guy that put on my tires the day before yesterday hit me with the same thing. He said, "They make some good chips for these cars." I just looked at him blankly, then he pulled out the pictures of his wrecked 3rd gen. I was like, dude, just put my damn tires on.....
