Default Can Anyone Tell Me What's Done Under The Hood?

99 WS6

I see it has a FAST intake mani and likely an aftermarket MAF/TB...Also there's an extra canister next to the ac can. Sorry I'm so nooby but I'm not familiar with every nook and cranny of the LS1 engine bay. From what I can tell as far as aftermarket parts it has black Z06 wheels, intake manifold, MAF, possibly a lid, it's lowered, and a mega tach which will be my first mod delete if I get it.

Also is 12.5k a decent starting price for the car? I'm going to talk it down to like 11k at least and I'm trading my 07 Mazdaspeed6 for it.

Edit: What about this other 99 WS6, it's stock but has higher miles. Is 85,000 miles a lot on an LS1? I'd assume not, 85k miles is hardly broken in for a Chevy.

I see a 90/90 (could be a Fast 78 but I am guessin 90) setup and a air lid, and possibly an aftermarket MAf. Also the tips are not stock so it might have some exhaust. Maybe just a cat-back, but from the 90/90 setup I am going to assume he has full exhaust

Also you might want to keep the large tach, since its a stick shift and the stock tach is a damn liar I here.

85K sounds like a lot because it is getting close to a 100 but most of theses engines can take well into the 100's and the 200's , so it really is not that bad

I figured it was a 90 because I looked at a stock underhood shot and the one on that TA dominated the stock one. Anyone know what that black canister is? It has two tubes running to it from what looks like the intake manifold. It looks like there's no EGR on the FAST also, which is a good thing for me, but like I said, I'm kind of unfamiliar with stock vs. modded with an LS1.

90/90, it does have an aftermarket MAF because of the adapter plug to the stock MAF plug, smooth bellow, lid, looks like MSD 8.5 plug wires, i cant see if it has headers.

the black canister with the brass fittings by the tensioner pulley is a catch can and NOT cruise control! but the car does have cruise control

It has a FAST 90/90 set up on it. The TB is a Nick Williams 90mm. As for the can, it's a catch can to keep oil from the PVC going into the intake. Talk to the owner. Looks to have stock heads. May have a cam if it has a 90/90. 11K seems like a lot for a 99.

Can I get ahold of the owner on here or no? It's for sale at a dealer so I assume they know nothing about it since they didn't post up anything about mods in the description. I emailed them and I'll probably give them a call tomorrow and see what's up with the car and if they still have it.

all i can say is drive the stock one first, and drive the modded one, compare the two and see which one you want more. dont be fooled by a slow feeling on the modded one though, sometimes modded cars can seem to be sluggish when cruising around at low speeds.

feel for a lope in the idle, it might have an aftermarket cam in it. listen to the car. look under it, under the hood, look for leaks, loose bolts on suspension, etc. if it's a good solid car, drive it home.

The mods have been hit on by the other guys. So Ill give my opinion.

Yes this is a modded vs a stock Trans Am. But if it were me, I would take the white TA with the 80k miles on it. Why, cause you know it probably wasnt beatin on as much as the modded one. Its just given. People dont mod cars just to drive them like you would drive your daily ride. Plus there is only 20k miles difference between the two.

Any car that has a FAST 90 setup and aftermarket MAF, plus a catchcan, likely either WAS or is fairly heavily modded. Chances are if it doesn't have a cam at minimum it used to. go look at it and check the casting number on the heads too

I would steer clear of the 1st one with the fast setup. Im about 99% sure that car is cammed and there is a really good chance that it has aftermarket heads. It also has a catback, lid, msd wires, catch can, shifter and/or short stick, and most likely headers. A car with a FAST setup is an indication of a lot of mods, therefore it has been driven hard. Also, with a cam, then the engine has been broken into and you never know the quality of the work put into it. Plus, a giant big tach is a dead give away that the car has been raced.

I was thinking all of that too, I'm no newb to fast cars or performance parts by any means, I have a 12 second Bravada in my stable and want to push off my Speed6 because it's too slow. I want to get a stock LS1 but the modded one is close and seemed like a good idea...Well not really, but. Eh, who knows, I kind of like the white one, don't see too many white T/A's especially around here, they're all black.

Thanks for your input guys, we'll see what I can put together tomorrow, I really want to get my *** in an F-Body especially after I took a stock 00 SS M6 for a 30 minute test drive in June.

if you are going to mod and race it, why not just buy the modded one and save some money?

if you want it for a cool looking car to drive every day, sure buy the white one, it'll probably get better mileage too.

I would buy the unmodded 99. The other car has had the **** raced out of it and that means a lot a future probs like rear, clutch etc..

Right, and I'd be even MORE nervous if it DIDN'T have H/C or even headers, because that probably means it was running nitrous and that's why the owner installed the 90/90.
