Ok, they should sticky this question already.
This is the easiest way to do it if you forget. I know I always forget.
Go through the normal oil change procedure and filter replacement.
When you are filling up the crank case with oil, USE the dipstick.
Give it a chance for the oil to drain properly and USE the dipstick.
Sounds pretty easy, right?

the ls1 has oil issues, and if you have lower oil and go racing around corners you can actually damage the motor as the oil system can't keep up with the g-forces. Most of the road race guys I know use 6 quarts with the stock filter or change the whole system- but that is a little overboard for a DD.
